AVIVA is the worst

by Chippy on Feb 26, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

I had both Auto and House policy with AVIVA for over 15 years. My rates increased last year. This year I got the notice that I was selected randomly to reapply for my policy renewal via email from my broker? I asked my broker why and they said AVIVA are randomly reevaluating auto policies in Alberta. You have to reapply and AVIVA will decide if you will even get a policy or not, plus you have to pay entire years policy, no monthly plan. I got the six-page form by registered mail today, just like starting from scratch, they already have all this information. I am a -15 grid rating driver, which is the best rating. I am the type of driver that AVIVA should be providing policies for since I am the lowest risk. Being treated like crap doesn't work for me, bye bye AVIVA. I also have a home policy which is getting switched to another insurance provider. AVIVA is the only company I know that doesn't want your business. Avoid them like the plague! I would rate AVIVA lower than one if I could.

39% increase from 2018

We are retired. No accidents. No tickets. Have been customers of RBC Insurance and (now Aviva) for the past 35 years. We live in a low-risk community and drive a Hyundai and a Ford. How can they possibly justify an increase of both our auto and home insurance by 39%?! We hate change but NO WAY we will be assaulted by this corporate greed. Shop around folks.

Fraudsters

by Frustrated on Dec 23, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Like the reviews below, I had a registered letter regarding my auto insurance. With no claims and no tickets, I was frustrated, so I opted to cancel my auto and home insurance. Received a letter stating cancellation, perfect. But they still took money out of my account even after cancellation and worst yet, they took double. Called in and finally was able to speak with a human, said they would refund me but will take 2 weeks. Very ticked off as I am on disability from the police force and need every penny. $471.00 out of my account when I need those funds. Cancel and they still taking funds. That's fraud. DO NOT use Aviva! I would put zero stars if it would let me.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

UNDERWRITERS ARE INCOMPETENT

by CloseYourDoors on Dec 12, 2018

Unbelievable. I started with Aviva last year with the most basic insurance (home and auto) and set up auto-pay. In September I was gone to Europe to get married and there was an issue processing my payment. A few days later they tried taking payment again but it was declined. This apparently deems cancellation for non-payment, even after I offered to pay off the remainder of my year. I notified Aviva I would be gone in September but instead of calling me or emailing me, they sent a letter for cancellation that was not received until I came back from Europe. Don't deal with this company unless you want headaches, they have no communication skills and the underwriters are quick to take action without first doing due diligence on every situation. Now after a 100% perfectly clean driving and insurance record, no one will insure me without paying off the full year. Thanks for screwing over a family with 1 vehicle, an 8-month-old and second on the way. Hopefully, I get a reply if this company is somewhat decent enough.

RBC Aviva Insurance

by Trevor on Nov 15, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I've been a client for 10 years. When I called them earlier today to find out where my pink renewal slips were, I was rudely informed that my auto insurance was not going to be renewed but my home insurance would remain. Huh?!? Apparently, they sent me some questionnaire -- that I didn't ever receive. Since I didn't fill out a document that I wasn't aware of, I was being dropped as a customer, even though I'd never made a claim or a late payment. Thanks to RBC Aviva, I wasted almost six hours of my day moving my business to another insurance company. I was told by the CSR that I could re-apply to become a customer again at any time. I'll be following up by extinguishing all RBC products from my life as well. I don't have time to deal with this kind of nonsense.

AVIVA Cancels auto insurance

by thumperqew on Oct 17, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Had a 5,000 claim in 2015, in 2017 Aviva partnered with RBC as the underwriter and then they cancelled my insurance 1 month before my renewal!!! RBC said AVIVA sent me a re-application via snail mail (which I never received). Because I didn't "reapply within 2 weeks, they sent a "registered" letter informing me my policy is cancelled and they no longer want me as a customer. AFTER 15 years of being a customer, never missing a payment! No changes in my vehicles or driver rating. (They actually said they would NOT cancel my House insurance! LOL). BEWARE, Aviva now RUNS RBC insurance and the complaints line I called said they are targeting longtime customers and snuffing them out as most have a declining deductible clause (my $500 deductible was at $0 because of my 15 years of "Loyalty"), haha. They ACTUALLY said I qualify for the exact same coverage after the RBC agent issued me a quote and I would have NO lapse in coverage, HOWEVER, there would be $150 rate hike and I would lose all accrued loyalty benefits such as my declining deductible, which was at $0, so re-set to $500. RBC's bait and switch predatory practices are despicable, I don't believe they ever mailed me any re-application/renewal forms and obviously by not emailing me or calling me to notify me about pending policy cancelation (they had my email and home phone number on file for years) they obviously targeted me and are looking to get rid of long-term customers. The RBC insurance Rep apologized for AVIVA's unscrupulous corporate tactics as this is new to RBC, she sounded embarrassed after admitting she is getting multiple calls from longtime customers with similar complaints. Note RBC does not target new customers, within the last 2 years, rather longtime loyal customers they want to get rid of. Good luck RBC, I'm lodging a complaint with the Ontario Insurance Ombudsman and notifying my Union, my workplace as well as my friends and family to steer clear of RBC! AVOID the renewal cancellation hassle by RBC auto insurance.

Crooks - Bad customer service

by snospin on Mar 28, 2018

So Aviva cancelled my home insurance because they wouldn't insure a home with a business, then a few months later when I wanted to cancel my auto insurance, they charged me a $200 fee! So they cancel on me, and I have to pay a fee to get out of the contract? Crooks!

WARNING DO NOT INSURE

by freezingcoldyk on Aug 15, 2014

Have my motorhome policy through Aviva. Had some damage to one of the slides and the claim is still trying to be resolved. Their customer service sucks, I have had to keep calling and emailing them and they never get back to you. I had to call and complain to the claims manager in order to have something done for me, which I feel is totally unnecessary when submitting a claim. I have my homeowners, boat and vehicles insured through them as well and I have requested that my insurance broker rewrite these policies with a different company. My concern is what if my house burnt down and I received this same service from them, it's stressful enough to have to go through this, you don't want to have to deal with someone's laziness to do their job at the same time.

AVIVA is a pure SCAM

I had 2 car insurance policies with them for many years (7 years). Next month one of my vehicle's insurance is up for insurance, I haven't got the renewal package as of yet, so I called in asking if they sent out the renewal package. At first, I was told that the renewal package was sent 2 months ago, then, I was told that I wasn't eligible for Multi-Vehicle Discount! When asked why I was told that my other car insurance was cancelled because I had 3 minor infractions over the past 3 years! That was surprising to me! I was also told that the cancellation happened 4 months ago and they sent out a registered mail - which I didn't receive - and they even that claimed my first vehicle - the one that is up for renewal - can't be insured because of the infractions!

Terrible Company

by Raven K on Sep 8, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I received a price quote for my auto and home in May for my July 17 renewal. I accepted the quote and paid in full on or before the due date. About 2 weeks later, I get another bill from them for $11.00 which they said was a COVID adjustment. No big deal. Then, a full month after my renewal, I get yet another bill from them for $122.00. There was no explanation, just said renewal (adjusted). I called and they explained that for me to get a COVID rebate (wow, $36 for 3 months), they had reduced my mileage to 1,000 km. and then, after the COVID period was over, they had to manually re-adjust to my normal mileage of 5000 km. The COVID rebate ended June 21, my policy renewed in July. Furthermore, when they send out the renewal in May, they knew the COVID rebate expired before my renewal. I pointed out to them that they quoted me one rate then charged me another, even wrote a letter to their ombudsman asking for a pro-rata refund because I don't want to do business with a company that operates like this. I was told too bad. I'm stuck with them for almost another year. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! That's my advice and hopefully, it will prevent anyone else from having to go through the same situation I've had to deal with.
