Terrible Terrible Company

by peter on Sep 25, 2019

I have the same experience as most other people. After paying premiums for 15 years, my car insurance was cancelled after a no-fault accident and now my house is in cancelled because of a $10,000 flood claim. They downgraded my driving rating to a new driver for a no-fault accident. This company is not accredited by the better business bureau and I'm surprised that RBC associates themselves with such unscrupulous business practices.

Another victim.

Aviva raised my rates for 3 cars and home from $2100/year to $3360/year and demanded full payment upfront. I have a driving and credit rating that would make a veteran police officer look like a punk kid. Some of us didn't deserve this, life is hard enough.

Stay Away from this company

Would give less than 1 if possible. Must be said that AVIVA/RBC are the same. Have had nothing but nightmares dealing with adjusters (Never call back or answer emails, send incorrect info, etc). We lost our cars due to a tornado and took 4 months to get things resolved. But the latest just kicks the bucket. My daughters insurance (perfect driving record, no claims) went up 48% because they decided to remove the typical discounts that are available everywhere else such as Student discount, multi-vehicle discount, web quote discount, winter tire discount. We have been with them for almost 12 years. Will be moving to another company (4 cars, 3 houses). Unbelievable how this company does not care about its clients.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

62% increase Car rates 2019

by Daveb on Aug 31, 2019

As a family we have two vehicles with Aviva and we have no claims, no tickets ( perfect driving records), are both over 64 years old and out of the blue our new insurance rates have gone up 62% year over year with ‘no’ explanation and less than one month to explore all options. Customer service has no explanations except to blame all other drivers for this increase and no empathy or care for their clients. We have been with RBC for over 15 years and will now explore how to explore the appropriate changes in advance of the 2020 renewals as we look to change. Too late for this year but rest assured our house, cottage and vehicles will no longer be with Aviva next year. Please check carefully your policy renewals and start the process of finding the right rate in a very confusing industry with only corporate profits as the motive for change.

Cancellation notice

Thank you RBC and Aviva Insurance... after 28 years with RBC Insurance and now Aviva they cancel our insurance because my 24-year-old son was driving 140 in a 100 zone on a 400 series highway....yup, going way too fast for sure. He is 24 and his only ticket, no tickets or accidents for my wife and me or accidents. I estimate over 28 years we have paid over $236,000 in premiums for our life insurance, home, rental properties and auto without a single claim....currently we pay a tad over $1,000 per month in premiums with Aviva for all of our business....absolutely blown away that for one mistake over 28 years, we are dropped at renewal date. Isn't insurance for when you make a mistake or have a claim? After speaking with RBC, the operator said " thank you for calling RBC and we value your business " lol, they simply do not care about relationships...oh well, I am sure another provider will value having our auto, life, home and rental property policies...

WORST Service ever.

After receiving the most insulting letter to see if I "qualify" for my Auto Insurance after years and years of being a client, Home, Auto Mortgages, Investments, RSP's etc. Not a single late or missed payment. One hail damage claim only in ALL the years my family and I have been with Royal Bank, I along with many others get this extremely unprofessional and impersonal letter. I started March 1st trying to cancel my insurances, I have spent 5 phone calls for a total of over 4 hours on hold, I have gone to the Royal bank branch to try and get assistance spent 35 min in the branch, was given a 1800 phone number to the Insurance office, which we called from within the Royal Bank branch, we received a voice mail and was promised a phone call return within 45 min. It's now 7 days later! Then I was given a phone number to Royal Bank Insurance office on Jasper Ave Edmonton, which when called stated the number was "Out of Service" So once again I phone Royal Bank insurance, Back to sitting on hold. I FINALLY got through to a person! I asked to cancel my insurance, to be told there will be a cancellation fee since I did not do it prior to renewal even though they could see that I had started this process March 1st, it's now June! So I request a cancellation today I am told there will be a cancellation fee even though it was out of my control because I could not get through to cancel prior to renewal. I am so unbelievably disgusted at this point I don't care I will pay the 47.00 cancellation fee only to be told I have to go to a Royal bank Insurance" office" in order to pay it. The Royal Bank can not collect the fee unless I pay it by Visa. The Royal Bank cannot take it out of my Royal Bank account. I have to go to an insurance office on the other side of the city... If I don't pay it either on my visa or go to the Insurance office, then it goes to the collection, that's what I am told... After 40years with the Royal Bank, this is the service they provide! I am, however, benefiting in the end because I saved $1305.00 per year on my home and Auto Insurance. My Business accounts, my personal accounts, my family's accounts and investments will all be moving from this Financial Institution. My advice is to seek Your Insurance business elsewhere you will save a great deal of money and receive respectful customer service!

Worst Insurance

My auto and home insurance were with RBC for 18 years and they changed it to AVIVA. AVIVA ask me to fill a form and keep rejecting to renew if I don't fill it right and also demand to pay a full annual premium up front. Being with RBC for that long, I didn't like their attitude and changed my insurance to another company for a better premium. They charged a monthly premium. I do not recommend Aviva insurance.

AVIVA, a horror story.

by Frank on Mar 5, 2019

For anyone that has auto insurance from Aviva Canada, I strongly suggest you find a new provider and for anyone who is contemplating using them for insurance to stay well clear of them. They are a horror story and only want your money and will find any excuse to avoid payouts. Here is my horror story. I have had them for over 10 years as my auto insurance provider and dutifully paid the premiums on time, every time, even when I heard others had cheaper premiums with other companies. Stupid me. On July 2018 I was involved in an auto collision. The other driver was at fault and was charged with careless driving by the police officer. It was my bad luck that he also had Aviva insurance. I reported the accident in same day. Aviva quickly wrote off the vehicle, even though the damage did not seem that extensive, and lowballed me on the payout. Less than half of what I paid 2 years prior. I argued that I had done some major repair work on it 6 months prior and should be at least partially compensated for that as well. According to Aviva that is apparently where I committed a sin. It seems we cannot question being ripped off by them. After 1 month of no definitive answers from them, in frustration, I cancelled my multiple auto and property policies with Aviva. They lost a total of $6,600 annual premiums because of their unprofessional approach. And really for a mere $12,000 claim. That appeared to have been my second mistake. I believe that they thought it was now payback for cancelling my policies. They took over 6 months to make a case that the work was not done as detailed in the receipts I provided. They put me through phone and an in-person interrogation (the Gestapo could not have done a better job). The end result was that they declined my claim including the car rental I used for 1 week after the accident. While it may be true that the auto shop cheated me on the work done in the bills, they should have simply declined the receipts and maintained their original offer, low as it was. Talk about adding salt to a wound. I have now retained a lawyer and proceeding with legal action against Aviva. Stay away from this scam of a company.

Terrible insurance company

I was sent a form to fill out, (they gave me a week) 5 business days to fill it out and mail it back. I had to say goodbye (loyal 9-year customer with no record of any issues or accidents with them). Customer service was horrible and I just had to leave. I found out later that their rating was at an all-time low and the company was in some financial turmoil. So not only did I drop the auto insurance I also dropped my home and cottage insurance as well. I would suggest staying away from this insurance company.

It's time to say goodbye ...

It is so sad, but I decided to leave RBC Insurance after being a loyal customer for almost 20 years. The price hike in 2019 is unacceptable, I have a perfect driving record, no claims on my house insurance. I was told by two different RBC agents, that the price increase on my policy was because my new 2018 car doesn't have Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), REALLY!!?? I spoke to a few different, reputable Insurance companies and they were laughing, they told me, they never heard about an increase in premium for not having AEB installed on the car. Well, I was a loyal customer, but RBC/AVIVA is not, so it's time for me to look for a new Insurance Company.
