Bad Customer Experience

by insurance consumer on May 8, 2012
2 out of 5 stars

My car was damaged during an oil change at Midas Muffler. They sent me to Aviva. They told me I should claim the rental car on my own insurance. My own insurance agent told me I would be deemed ‘at fault’ if I did so. Eventually Aviva relented and agreed to pay.

Six months later, I got a call from the rental company demanding payment for the rental car. Needless to say, I was getting very annoyed at this point and called Aviva. Fortunately I happened to have kept my notes from six months earlier and had the name of the manager I had dealt with. Eventually, she agreed Aviva really should have paid for the rental car and came up with a somewhat complicated way to do so involving me paying for the rental car and then being reimbursed by Aviva.

This is probably the worst customer service experiences I have ever had and I would not go near Aviva under any circumstances.

STAY AWAY

Was in a not at fault accident and had to send them the highway traffic act and dashcam video and was still called at fault until the other party's insurance saw the video and took full fault. The woman dealing with my case was so rude. When I had issues with how it was all being handled and the rental car I was told by their manager that "if I didn't like the rental car a bus pass could always be supplied." I have never had such a horrible experience with a company, let alone one I'm spending $4000+ at a year. When my year is up (which can't come fast enough) I'm getting away from this corrupted company forever!

Crooks ....buyer beware!!!

by tmedeiros@bcglogistics.com on Apr 3, 2019

Beware, this is how they boost bottom line by denying legitimate claims...the extreme delays in hope that policyholder loses interest or gets frustrated and walks away. Quick to sign up and consistent with pulling monthly premiums however if you ever have a claim they will delay and delay and treat you like a criminal. Six (6) months after filing a claim (hit by a driver who ran a red light) and we are no closer to a resolve and they have not provided a cent towards the $1800 put out for rental (did I mention they continued to take out full premium although there was no car on the road due to their adjuster writing off). They are known for their delay tactics (first thing lawyer told us when we mentioned who the provider was). Make sure you tell all your friends and family to stay clear of this provider for both auto and home insurance based on all the really BAD reviews for both services. Not investing in proper due diligence prior to signing on was my first mistake with these crooks!! They don't even deserve a 1 star should be -5!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Stay away from Aviva

Worst experience ever trying to deal with this company. Took 3 weeks to settle a claim when my wife got hit (not her fault). They refused to listen to our complaints and basically told us to like it or lump it. Insurance premiums were raised over 200$ a year for no reason at all as our driving records are squeaky clean. I'd prefer the charges of going without insurance than dealing with this company ever again. There is NO customer care whatsoever

Aviva ignores

Called around and choose RBC insurance through Aviva because it was least expensive. However, had a claim in November where we were rear-ended (no fault of ours). All three vehicles had Aviva insurance... we received phone calls at home and cell from Aviva looking for the other occupants (who caused the accident!) and leaving us messages regarding this claim and personal information!!!! We complained but it continued... we got a lawyer and it didn’t improve. Our health adjuster was ignorant and rude (we faxed paperwork and he stated “well that goes to Toronto... I’m in Halifax... do you want me to get in my car and drive there?!)... We were the victims (multiple injuries... deaths... etc) and our own insurance company was treating us like this!! We called their supervisor and requested a new adjustor - which was ignored. We phoned RBC and complained and were ignored. We went back to our lawyer and were suggested not only to sue the people responsible but also Aviva... insane that as a large company they treat their paying customers this way! Disgusting!!

Terrible!

by Frustrated on Feb 2, 2018

Had a heck of a time dealing with this company. With their lack of response and them trying to rip me off on my car that was a write-off! The accident wasn't even my fault! They then low balled me even though I had coverage to replace my car and of course I had to fight it. The accident happened on December 1st and the claim didn't even get settled until January 19th! This was only because I was so sick and tired of dealing with Jacques. I had included his manager in the emails, and she was unresponsive as well. Until I got my lawyer involved and as soon as they sent the email, low and behold, Aviva responds within 3 minutes! Eventually, they even became unresponsive to my lawyers' emails and phone calls. They would call at odd hours knowing my lawyer wouldn't be able to pick up! Then once I got my lawyer involved they refused to even talk to me about my claim! Ridiculous! I call them, wait on hold and leave messages to no answer. They are willing to take all your money but when it comes to paying out they are unwilling. They got a "deal" from the dealership but the dealership said we only give that deal if this is a cash payment of the vehicle. Customers don't get the discounts if they go on finance. So again I paid 36k and when they said full replacement they don't really mean it. The adjuster said he needed the MSRP, etc etc. and when he wasn't able to get information from the dealership because they didn't have it. It went silent. I got the MSRP price of my vehicle and yet they gave me a lower settlement. If he wasn't going to change his mind on the payout why make me jump through hoops to get the information for him? I had the no depreciation endorsement. So, in the end, I am at a 10K loss. So the year I have been paying into my last car was a waste. Terrible customer service! I even contacted the ombudsman and that is a total joke as well. They tell me on my insurance that if I am not happy with how things were handled I can get my premium back, but when I emailed them they told me since I have my lawyer involved they need to deal with my lawyer or have my lawyer tell them they aren't dealing with it anymore. My boyfriend also sustained injuries and when I talked to my adjuster, he said the healthcare team will be in contact. 2 weeks after accident still no answer. So I called them again. First they said oh I will put a note in for someone to call. When I called back they said oh someone clicked off not to call your boyfriend. Well, wouldn't they have seen that in the first place?! My boyfriend is still in a lot of pain from the accident that happened Dec 1st! We have gotten a lawyer to deal with this and it is ridiculous. I wonder if there are any companies out there that treat their customers better? and not to lie to them!?

DO NOT USE AVIVA!

I was involved in an accident. Aviva refuses to put a claim through on my car. They claim I didn't have insurable interest in my vehicle :s ?? My car was written off and scrapped. I have over 100 pictures of the vehicle before and after the accident. They claim since "there is no vehicle to inspect, there is no claim". I asked "What do you do in a theft situation when there is no vehicle to inspect?" They claim it's a different scenario. I said "regardless there is still no vehicle to access the value" They still say it's different. I will not renew my car and motorcycle policy with them. The customer service is horrible. My car was only worth a few thousand dollars. They are willing to lose a customer over a few thousand dollar pay out. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND AVIVA TO ANYONE. See ya never Aviva!

Completely Unresponsive

Had a claim where the other driver crossed into my lane. Had dash cam footage; still had to take the day off work to go to court. Flash forward 7 months. I'm trying to cancel my policy. Their policy is they can only have transactions by phone. I've been on hold for over 3 hours in total. Worst customer service experience of my life.

Crooks ...

by annoyed on Aug 22, 2017
1 out of 5 stars

Had an accident July 4th which was not my fault - another driver was charged with careless. So much for Aviva's new car guarantee... Beware, folks, that's lies! 7 weeks later still waiting for a car... My model is no longer available, and they are wanting to replace it with a lower model from another manufacturer... They have a fleet management service source out potential dealers interested in the sale ... Twice now called by Avivia to say have a car for me to look at ... then a few minutes later they call back ... sorry no car there? Now that they cannot easily find a replacement through their fleet management service, and re trying to brush me off with a payment, well below what it will cost me to replace the car? How shady ... and so sad, since they have held my home and auto policy now for 23+ years. Guess they sleep well though ... as they are part of RBC, their staff and management are well salaried and oh the bonuses - too bad the bonuses are on the backs on loyal dumb clients such as myself who loose out in the end. So past time to shop for a new carrier!

As bad as it gets

Like most reviewers I have nothing good to say about having my auto insurance with Aviva. Like many insurance companies, they make lovely promises to "be there for you." HA! They're great at taking your money, and loathe to pay out. And should you cancel your insurance, out comes the fine print and a thousand ways to gouge you further. I dream of a world free of injustice, poverty, pollution, overpopulation, and insurance companies. The only decent experience I've had with auto insurance was with Family Insurance Solutions Inc out of British Columbia.
