Scam Company

Aviva sent a registered letter at the end of November during the postal strike wanting us to reapply for auto insurance after we had been with them for 9 years. The forms were received just before Christmas, which were 5 pages of jargon I didn't even understand. We filled them out and sent them back, they didn't receive them until January 14th...our policy expired on the 12th. When I finally got ahold of someone after 45 minutes of being on hold 3 separate times, they told me that I did not fill out the forms correctly and they would mail them back to me to fix. I told them I can't go without insurance and asked if I could have a grace period. They said no and absolutely refused to help me. Then told me if I wanted to stay with them that it would be up to 5 weeks with no insurance before it is sorted out. Their exact words were "well, if you need insurance today, then go somewhere else". All the agents I spoke with refused to let me talk to a manager and said they would put in a note on my file for one to call in roughly 5 business days. On top of all this, I have made monthly payments with them for 9 years, not once did I miss a payment. They said that because I lapsed I am deemed a "threat" for non-payment and they want a credit card number for full payment before they even reviewed a so-called new policy. My driving record is spotless, I have zero claims and this is how they treat a customer. These people need to be reported to the BBB. What a scam to jack rates. Horrible Company. Thankfully, I was able to get insurance with another company with better benefits and customer service. DO NOT USE AVIVA.

STOLEN CAR - AVIVA FRAUD

by MP101 on Apr 27, 2017

I’m writing this review because I am extremely disappointed at how AVIVA treated my wife and I when we made a claim for our stolen vehicle which was found a week later by the police in a damaged condition. First of all, when we first called AVIVA to get the case put through (November 14, 2016) it took forever to get a hold of Gorman (The Manager). Gorman never returned our calls and refused to make our case a priority. It took a couple of weeks of constantly calling until finally they gave us the number for the Toronto head office. By law they are supposed to come see me within 24 hours of the reported incident –stolen & damaged vehicle (which they didn’t). Second of all, once the incident was filled, they never got us a rental car as they promised they would when we signed our insurance to them in the beginning. Not only did I have to find my own rental but yet I had to pay for the full cost myself! My case was investigated by Debbie T. who is located in the Toronto head office. We gave all our information to her so that she could conduct an investigation. My wife and I even agreed to go Under Oath and aid in securing information and evidence to assist in verifying the evidence. After all this Debbie T. still denied us and treated us like we were criminals! Consequently, Megan S. (AVIVA General Insurance Adjuster) claimed that they will not put our file through since there “seemed to be some discrepancies between our evidence and the productions”. No further information was explained in the letter of rejection! I have all my insurance with RBC, I tried to get them to help me with the case but they kept of brushing us off and made us deal straight with AVIVA. Andrew M. from RBC was the broker who was supposed to help us, yet he did not do anything! The lack of customer service in RBC - AVIVA is horrible. My family signed up for insurance so that we don’t have to worry about cases like these, but in the end insurance companies will do anything to try and not pay you out - the victim. Moreover, AVIVA still has my damaged car, they have not indicated what they are going to do with it. After speaking to a couple of lawyers they told us that insurance companies will drag their feet on an investigation, knowing there is time limit to sue (2 years). He said there is never absolutely no reason they don’t pay. They’ll just use every excuse in the book to not pay out a claim. Insurance companies have nothing to lose by denying the claim, unless you keep persistent and sue them! My wife and I work full-time and have three small children, we do not have time to be playing petty games with the insurance company. We will not let them treat us like criminals when the crime was done to us! This case will not be left alone, I am working with a lawyer right now to handle the case and sue AVIVA. We are also filling a complaint to the Canadian Better Business Bureau, and forwarding this to as many communication outlets so that other innocent families like us don’t fall for insurance companies like AVIVA Canada. There is a reason AVIVA has the worst ratings and reviews, do yourself a favor and stay away from them!

Informing all my friends and relatives to stay away from this terrible insurance company who will overcharge, mislead and create stress in your life at vulnerable times when you need assistance in selecting an insurance for all family needs.

I have always believed that the relationship between myself and the insurance company is based on 'trust'. I have lost trust in Aviva. I was involved in a accident involving others. Stopped at the crosswalk when a vehicle half the size of our SUV ploughed into the back of us. Aviva expects us to take a substantial loss of our vehicle. We were innocent. We were stopped at a crosswalk! To replace my vehicle will cost me between 3-5 thousand dollars. Tell me, does that seem fair? Unfortunately this site doesn't allow to choose '0'. So I have to choose '1' star. Claims experience is '0'.

Aviva caught red handed! Lies!

They called me at work today to tell me that damage to my car was wear and tear! The nerve. After being an RBC customer for more then 15 years, paying them without issue over the years, never had an issue with RBC insurance until Aviva took over the car insurance, this is the fist claim filed with Aviva. The rep told me flat out that the estimator report said it was wear and tear. You have to a complete idiot to believe that! It is very obvious it is not wear and tear! So I was pretty upset with Aviva, so she then said she will call the estimator and speak with him. So I called the estimator myself, and he said he put on the report this is a legitimate claim, never mentioned anything about any wear and tear. And he was not contacted by Aviva, he said he would contact them to try and straighten it out. I am going to cancel all my insurance with them. They are going to lose on this one not me!

Deceived and Bullied

I will try to keep this brief. No adjuster contacted me for three working days after I phoned immediately (during working hours) from the accident. The body shop and towing compound sought out me over the next several days because they were not getting information to proceed from AVIVA. The body shop contacted me for approval of repairs while AVIVA failed to inform me of any progress (they had been debating write off versus repair). I contacted AVIVA for information. The adjuster eventually (several days later) told me that although extensive damage that the car was repairable because the damage was less than 70% of the value of the car. I pointed out that, with simple math and the value and damage figures they provided to me, the damage exceeded 75% of the value, without regard to the 20% contingency that the repairs might grow by because the extent of repairs was hidden. The response was to up the valuation of my car by $6000 to make the math work. I requested a supervisor because nothing made sense and because the adjuster was bulling me into accepting their terms and if I didn't agree immediately to their terms I must assume immediate possession of vehicle including charges to remove from body shop and expenses to date and accept a cheque that would not cover repairs. The supervisor the adjuster handed me over to (by my request) turned out to be just another adjuster but fooled me until after I was beaten and agreed to AVIVAs terms. All of this happened when the other parties insurance accepted full blame and costs from the start. You never know how good your insurance is until you submit a claim!

Unprofessional and dishonest

For the past 8 months they have been giving me the run-around after my RV was damaged after being sunk. The unit needed to be extricated using heavy equipment and ended up being twisted out of shape and cracked. The run-around started with Aviva Elete outsourcing the adjusters job to another company. That company in-turn outsourced it to another adjuster. I have had two major licenced shops check it over and they have deemed the unit beyond repair.I have sent all documentation and photos that their adjuster provided to the factory service center and they have quoted almost $180,000.00 to repair the unit.

Their appraiser had me drive the damaged unit (which was barely derivable and unsafe) to an unlicensed shop for inspection. He then came out with a quote of $30,000.00 which they insist I take in a cash settlement and have the repairs done myself. After I complained about that they had a local shop weld together a tie rod end so that they could order me to drive it over 300 miles away to have the Aviva adjuster look at it. It was one of the most terrifying drives I have ever had to make and it took over 8 hours to complete. The adjust did not show up and I was forced to leave the unit there for him to look at and make my way back home. It has been down there for over a month now and there is no way I can drive it back without the front suspension and steering being properly repaired.

There is no shop in the world that will even consider repairing the damages for the amount that they want me to settle for. I have 8 months of unanswered calls and emails from the worst customer service you have ever had to deal with. After asking to speak to their ombudsman I was denied the right to even bring my case to him/her. I was told that I can "hire my own appraiser" and they might consider looking at their findings. My next step is to contact the General Insurance Ombudsman and see if there is any help from that end.

In the meantime, I have purchased the aviva-insurancecomplaints domain name and welcome anyone who wants to share their horror story in dealing with Aviva.

Beware, IMHO these people are as shady and heartless as it comes and you will regret the day that you ever signed up with them.

Do Not Do Business With Them

I was hit by my neighbour. While I was in drive. They have deemed it 50/50 even though she had an obstruct to her view of my car. And because she says I hit her, but the witch is also suing for injuries. Can someone explain to me how you get injuries from backing out of a driveway. When you only have 5 feet to move?? So Obiviously she is just trying to get money from the insurance company! And it took them 6 months to tell me that it will be 50/50 and they didn't even try to fight it! They wouldn't take all the photos I had or my boyfriends statement into context, they just rolled over and said it was 50/50 so they could money off of both parties!!! Insurance companies are suppose to fight for their customers, not lay down and it!! Also I dealt with the worst customer serivce imagionable!! Once my car is fixed I am leaving this company and will tell everyone that will listen about my horrible experience I had with company.

Horrible Service....

I was in a car accident, I was hit by a driver with no insurance at a stop sign. He totaled my car. They had me a rental the very next morning ( that was the ONLY good part) I had a mazda 6 with nothing wrong with it ( other than the back wheel frame was starting to rust) I had 700$ brand new tires on it not even 2 months old.. They took 2 weeks to tell me they would offer my 1900$ for the car in total ( complete rip off, I had 5 appraisers tell me I could have sold that car for an easy 6000$) They informed me that they would cover the rental for 3 days after the offer. I told them that I didn't feel the offer was fair, and they said the rental would need to be returned regardless if I accepted or not because they gave me the offer.. So with work, 3 year old, 2 adults,1 person income..I was forced into taking the money... Told me I would have the cheque in 5 business days..... Well lord and behold.. a week and a half passes.. No cheque? Called in, "sorry, there was misconfusion and the cheque only got mailed yesturday".. So had to return the rental.. And took 3 weeks and 4 days in total to get the cheque... Horrible..
I was without a car for a FULL month.. I requested my mays payment back for paying for a month with no car... In short. They basically told me to bad so sad, screw you. I told them when the renew policy comes up I would not be renewing.. Their response to that was. " That's your decision"...
Injury claim was presented which I accepted ( only took A little over 2 months for them to make an offer)... Its now been a week, and still no cheque.. emailed them and "oops sorry, could take another 5 buisness days".
I requested it to go direct deposit into my account. They said "that is not an option we have".. Well jeeze. They sure don't mind taking my money out of my account directly.. But wont put it in directly..?

I'm still waiting on a lady to get back to me about loss of wages, medication cost, therapy.. The lady handling my claim emailed me.. I emailed her back with a bunch of questions.. And its been over a month and numerous emails.. And no response..
AVOID Aviva at all cost. Come September I will be switching for sure. 6 years with this company with no issues. 1 care accident and this is the service they give.
