Avoid RBC/Aviva Insurance

by Loyal RBC Customer on Jan 6, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

My son and I have been with RBC / Aviva for several years and we have 3 cars and home insured with them. Our policies are due for renewal, and Aviva sent my son a lengthy insurance application for his auto policy, whereby he has to re-apply to continue to be insured with them. He has a clean record. The other policies have been automatically renewed with no questions asked. We received this application via regular snail mail days before the expiry date, and we had to respond the same way; hardcopy. It was a scam. I called RBC Auto Insurance Customer Services, to ask if we can send a PDF copy via email. I was on hold for an hour. Someone finally answered the phone and provided me with an email address. I contacted them on the due date to inquire about the status of our insurance renewal, only to learn they had rejected the application and cancelled our insurance policy because they did not receive the application on time. RBC Auto Insurance Customer Services advised me that there is nothing that they can do for us. The decision had been made. This is how they take care of their good reliable customers. I am an older man with investments and insurance with RBC. My family and I will be closing all accounts and policies from RBC. Avoid at all costs!

The worst service and fraud

by Insurance scam on Jan 4, 2019

I filled out a form which I called to have them give me all the information for this form they where requesting. Sent the form in. Never heard anything. I got a registered letter that they are cancelling my insurance in my car. They stated I missed one checkbox and they sent a letter to have fixed. They didn't send me another letter but instead a registered letter to cancel. I figured I could call to fix this issue. Nope, nothing they can do. I must reapply as a new customer. Someone how the new quote is higher than my renewal. Worst customer service. So they want to cancel one car. So now I am going to cancel all three cars, the primary home and my three revenue properties. They don’t care what so ever. Ask for supervisor sorry no is there. Ask for escalation. Two to Three weeks for a callback?! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

Fraudsters

Like the reviews below, I had a registered letter regarding my auto insurance. With no claims and no tickets, I was frustrated, so I opted to cancel my auto and home insurance. Received a letter stating cancellation, perfect. But they still took money out of my account even after cancellation and worst yet, they took double. Called in and finally was able to speak with a human, said they would refund me but will take 2 weeks. Very ticked off as I am on disability from the police force and need every penny. $471.00 out of my account when I need those funds. Cancel and they still taking funds. That's fraud. DO NOT use Aviva! I would put zero stars if it would let me.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Cancel Policies Best Customers

I recently received a registered letter that was very adversarial in tone. After 20 years of being with RBC, Aviva has sent out a 5-page form that I must complete or my insurance will be terminated. This form is not intended for consumers to fill out; it is very complicated. I have 3 vehicles worth over $80,000 with no debt, an excellent driving record with 1 speeding ticket... I've spoken to the Government Agency here in Alberta and they asked me to send all documentation to them, including the letter. I've since learned that Aviva is intentionally trying to dispose of all the customers who have 1. Free Accident coverage 2. Lower deductible for loyalty 3. Lowest rates for good driving. They are compelling these customers to leave by threatening them. Please contact Alberta Superintendent of Insurance to complain. They informed me that they can only legally ask 13 questions, and if answered cannot legally cancel your policy for Liability, but they can cancel my comprehensive. After reading how they have dealt with claims from other customers, I am likely going to change anyways.

Pathetic!

We have been with RBC for over ten years. Now we get a letter from Aviva indicating we have to fill out a 5-page document for insurance renewal. Why? We have clean records and no claims, and forms were filled out when it was RBC insurance. Aviva states if they do not receive the documents by Jan-7-2019, they will cancel our policy. GOOD! Because we will not be renewing with this pathetic company.

UNDERWRITERS ARE INCOMPETENT

by CloseYourDoors on Dec 12, 2018

Unbelievable. I started with Aviva last year with the most basic insurance (home and auto) and set up auto-pay. In September I was gone to Europe to get married and there was an issue processing my payment. A few days later they tried taking payment again but it was declined. This apparently deems cancellation for non-payment, even after I offered to pay off the remainder of my year. I notified Aviva I would be gone in September but instead of calling me or emailing me, they sent a letter for cancellation that was not received until I came back from Europe. Don't deal with this company unless you want headaches, they have no communication skills and the underwriters are quick to take action without first doing due diligence on every situation. Now after a 100% perfectly clean driving and insurance record, no one will insure me without paying off the full year. Thanks for screwing over a family with 1 vehicle, an 8-month-old and second on the way. Hopefully, I get a reply if this company is somewhat decent enough.

The Terrible Reviews Are True

I was insured with Aviva (through RBC) for a number of years, and we had two policies because of five vehicles (2 passenger vehicles, 2 motorcycles, and a motorhome). We were low-risk, middle-aged people whose policies were paid in full. Our policies were due for renewal, and Aviva sent us a lengthy insurance application for the one policy whereby we had to re-apply to continue to be insured with them. The other policy they renewed - no questions asked. (Is that logical?!). We filled out this lengthy application, and accidentally overlooked one question on the application. Days before our current policy expired, I contacted them to inquire about the status of our insurance renewal, only to learn they had rejected the application and cancelled our insurance policy because of this one overlooked question. We were then faced with hurrying around trying to secure insurance through another provider with only days before our current policy became invalid. One simple question. Is that how you take care of your good customers? PATHETIC!

Worst Service Ever

They cancelled my policy because in their system they received my signed packed later than the due date even though it was sent before. When asked why this happened in their system, they had no answer and refused to admit their mistake. The ombudsman is useless much like their customer service. They have no people skills, no problem-solving skills and are just plain stupid and will not admit their mistake even when it slaps them in the face. I tried to cancel my policy before they did and they refused because of the underwriting department but would not tell me the reason. Super unprofessional and the worst insurance company

The worst insurance company

by Matty on Nov 29, 2018

We were with Aviva for 10 or so years. Had one accident, it was a write-off. And it took them almost 2 months to say it was a write-off. And we're still paying for it. I've made two payments since this happened. And now we find out they cancelled our insurance on use. This company is a JOKE. I will tell everyone I know not to choose Aviva unless they want to get screwed. And their customer service sucks. I'd like to meet the person who runs this joke show.

Worst Company Imaginable

by RWS on Nov 19, 2018

Aviva, which we were insured with for over 15 years, decided to send out a mailer to update our car info. They knew all the car info, but we filled it out anyway. We send it back. Three weeks later, we receive it back again saying one signature is missing. We sign the one space and send it back. Of course, this occurs during the postal strike and Aviva did not receive the returned form until after their arbitrary date and then up and cancelled our policy overnight. On three cars; they didn't even let us know that they cancelled our policy. So we call them up, and they tell us it will be 4 weeks, minimum, to get a new policy. We can't just stop driving for a month, so we had to switch to another company, which insured us THAT DAY. They almost seemed to enjoy our situation. Avoid at all costs!
