You won't believe this!!!

I have been driving 30+ years and other than a windshield, I've never made a claim - ever. I have been with Belair for about 3 years. Walking back to my truck after my son's soccer game this week, I noticed someone had taken out my sideview mirror (2017 Toyota Tundra truck). On Monday I called Belair, they gave me a claim number, told me where to take my truck (they would forward my information) and away we go. The total estimate (after part and labour) was $290 and my deductible was $300 so I emailed the rep from Belair to say I would pay for it all myself. (Now it gets weird). 2 days later they phone me and tell me I have to get a claim number from ICBC and send them (Belair) a copy of a police report. They then say since I don't have extended coverage through ICBC the deductible is $750, but they are willing to pay their $300 deductible as part of that, so I would only have to pay $450. I asked the rep why I would go file a police report, get a new claim number from ICBC, scan it all and send it to them, then pay them $450? My quote (for everything) was $290) His answer was that he had begun to work on my file and that "the wheels were in motion" and that I should "follow through until the end." Otherwise, I'm not acting in good faith. What??? Also, I had to go through ICBC because they did not really cover the "hit and run" of a parked car in the traditional way - they work with ICBC. None and I mean none of what they were saying made sense! This was a 30-minute phone call that bordered on harassment! I will tell this story to everyone I know as this goes well beyond the lines of bizarre!

Juices customers on 2nd year

I do NOT recommend Belair under any circumstances. No one wants to deal with insurance companies more than they need to. Wasting hours on the phone isn't fun. Belair sent me an email after one year of coverage, reasonably priced, saying that my new term would come up soon. I had to log into to see the changes. I logged in and rates were increasing 28% (in one year) for a 36-year-old married woman with a perfect driving record and no claims. (My car is a 2017 Chevy) This is bad business. I gave them a chance to explain and they put me on hold and wasted more of my time before giving me a response that had nothing to do with me. (Other people's claims caused my rate to go up.) Don't get involved with this company, it practices bad business.

Auto insurance increase

I have been with Belairdirect insurance for several years without any claims. I just received my renewal and they have incorporated a 60% rate increase. This is outrageous and I will be removing all my business from Belair. If ICBC has been characterized as a dumpster fire, I'm not sure what words to use for Belair

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Avoid this company

I have been with them for over 3 years, no claim whatsoever and no tickets. This year when the renewal of both my car and house insurance came, they had increased both of them by 23%. When I called, they were not able to provide any explanation and said that this was due to inflation! Really! A 23% inflation rate!!!

Car insurance renewal

The worst company, after they bought it from CDI nothing but increase. According to the employee I was lucky most of the people insurance went up 60 percent. My was only 50 percent. Why do that spend the money on advertising? Just to mention no claims for I think 30 years.

Terrible and fraudulent

Fraudulent Insurance Company, avoid at any cost. After buying Canadian Direct Insurance, Beladirect has increased the premium from 1,275 Cad to 1,800 without any reasons... I've changed my MDX 2016 to the same MDX 2019, and they increased the premium from 1,800 Cad to 2,775 Cad (I had no accidents, new car with no rating yet :). Avoid, avoid, avoid

Unfair price increases

My rate has gone up by $800, or 30%. But I have no clams, no tickets, no decrease in credit score, no change in address. Think twice before dealing with this company. FYI according to FSCO average rate increase in Ontario was around 5%. It means based on my perfect record I should get something between a decrease or a minuscule increase.

Premium Increases

by Paytoomuch on Dec 12, 2018

Horrible scam of an insurance company. Do not go with them. Initially, I had good experiences with Belair, for the first car I insured on my own. However, when I got a new car, I was not happy with the premium I was given. However, I was promised by the woman on the phone that as long as I went yet another year accident-free (I had been 10 years accident and ticket free at this point), my premium would decrease. It was based on that information that I decided to stick it out and stay with them, as I felt that staying with the same insurance company would be easier and better off for me in the end. Recently, I got my renewal and was shocked to see that it had gone up substantially. I called, bewildered at the fact that despite another year of being accident and ticket free, I was getting an increase. They assured me that this is how it is for everyone, due to the number of accidents. “Oh,” they said, “you have an amazing driving record! You should join our driving program to receive a discount!” I laughed, saying “if I’m such an amazing driver, why am I paying this insane amount with ten years of no accidents or tickets on my record”. They had no good answer, and it felt amazing the next day when I called to say I am cancelling my insurance with them.

Insurance Should not Increase

by dusnab on Nov 5, 2018

I purchased insurance from these guys and at first I was getting a good deal but after my first year my premium should have gone down but instead, it increased by 45$ and I had not been in any accidents nor did I get any tickets in the year. I contacted customer service to ask why I was getting an increase in my monthly payments. I contacted customer service and discussed the situation and it was everyone apparently had their insurance increased due to increased accidents as a whole. Anyway, it was whatever to me, so I moved on but following my next yearly update my insurance decreased but BelAir required me to do a credit check in order for me to continue monthly payments. Now to me these guys don't report to any credit agencies and don't report that I am making my payments on time and nor have I ever been late on a payment. So to treat your insurance like it is a credit product is bogus. I got another insurance quote from 4 other companies and they were anywhere from 100-160$ cheaper and so I have switched insurance companies and I recommend you avoid BelAir Direct. In the 10 years I have been driving I have received 1 speeding ticket and have been in 1 accident that I was at fault for. Credit checks and this type of treatment should be left with the credit card and bank companies only. Companies that actually lend you money.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Your friend at first, then watch them JACK THE PRICES UP. I have this year an 8% increase to my home insurance. LAST YEAR, they just... changed my policy because THEY wanted to... lower my flood coverage because they thought my coverage of 10K was too high, so lowered it to 3K ALL WITHOUT MY CONSENT, and didn't give a discount for that. Also just now they wrote me a letter saying THEY think my car deductible should be $1000, not $500. "The winter tire discount has been removed from the above-listed vehicle as it no longer qualifies" ... what? I just spent $1900 on tires and wheels why doesn't it qualify? AND you raised my insurance. P.S.: NO CLAIMS for the home or auto, not 1 in 17 years, and perfect driving record, not even a speeding ticket. Again, they'll be all cozy the first round then annually ding these things to their advantage.
