Don't bother

I get different information every time I call. Now I'm out $200 because I tried to cancel my policy within the renewal period and they took my money anyway and every time I call, they have no idea what I'm talking about. BEWARE.

Do not use this company!

Not only did talk all nice and make it sound like I was saving money using them, they cancelled my policy after just one month after reviewing my past driving history rather than reviewing it at the time of purchase. Instead of refunding my money back to me, they held on to it and kept giving excuses as to how they were going to process the refund. They will take your money, but not refund it in the same matter. They never owned up to the mistakes they made, instead tried to turn around and say I was not being honest with them. Then they tried to ask for more money in order for me to continue having valid insurance. They are complete crooks. They should be put out of service after being sued in a class-action lawsuit. In a pandemic and a time of crisis, they continue to steal money from hard-working consumers...

Torture

The worst insurance company. Horrible customer service, they spelled my name wrong on the pink slip. Requested another pink slip with a correct name. Never got it. Overcharged by $19 for not apparently not downloading the app. But I hate it downloaded, so I called and asked why this is happening they said that I needed to redownload it. So I did and registered all my information AGAIN and was still overcharged the next two months AGAIN by $19. Go with anyone else...

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Overcharging

I have been with Bellair for 4 months now and have had issues with every single billing cycle so far. My insurance was signed at $335 monthly, and every month I have been charged a higher fee for a reason that cannot be explained apparently! This month they tried to charge me twice! I always pay my bills on time so there is no reason for this or any confusion. Another thing was this month I was billed on the 8th when every other month I’ve been billed on the 19th. I do not like that they have access to my account like so to just charge to my card without my permission.

NSF policy is ridiculous

by Aswan on Dec 13, 2019
1.5 out of 5 stars

I've been with Belair for a few years. No accidents no claims and I at first loved the customer service. Twice I accidentally went NSF. Completely my fault. Last month I noticed my insurance wasn't taken out the date it normally is, but being a weekend I wasn't too worried. I called to make sure everything was good. The agent said oh no your payments come out two days after the date you think it is supposed to ( they said the 12th, I thought the 10th as my policy stated) so here I think, this month is fine! I had unexpected expenses and my pay was going in on the 12th. I thought, no big deal they just confirmed last month my payments come out on the 12th! On the 11th, yesterday they tried to take money out and went NSF. So I call this morning and told one, the last agent I spoke to was wrong. It was the 10th, two this is my fourth non-payment ( which if it was consistent back to back, I get it, but over the span of several years you are still counting?) and they will not reinstate my period. No option to pay a reinstate and NSF fee on top of my monthly payment. My payment wouldn't have gone NSF if i wasn't told incorrect information by their staff! The response was the non-payment is not seen in their system yet and to call back next week so they can “ look into it” and see if they can make an exception. Belair won't take money out from a credit card, won't confirm the correct dates payments are taken out. Your strike count gets added no matter how long you are in standing. And now I'm penalized for the employee's error? Reading the other comments I'm now worried i won't even be able to afford the cancellation fee! Talk about merry Christmas.

Incompetence

by Dave G on May 18, 2019

Do not use this company. I applied for home and auto insurance two months before my previous policy expired. I was told that they, (Belairdirect) in order to start the process of setting up an account, needed my banking information. I explained that I didn't want to do this and I was told that they couldn't offer me a policy until I did. I told them that they better not withdraw from my account and that I would make my payment via online banking. Guess what, they withdrew the full amount 6 weeks before they were supposed to and didn't heed my warning. I then phoned them back and cancelled my policy. Then to top it off, they just withdrew more money from my account after I cancelled. This company, in my opinion, is very incompetent.

Worst customer service. Worst Management, worst company I ever see in Canada. Please take a movement to read and know more about this company if you want to avoid high Blood pressure and save your money. DON’T believe and don’t trust those people. I had been more than six years with CDI. Unfortunately, one day they switched me to Belairdirect. They promised that everything will be the same. But that never happened. The same day they raised up the price 20% for two auto policies. When I called, they said everyone rose up. The second year the same happened: they raised them again another 20% although I never had any claim or any tickets. I walked in and discussed with one of their agent. I asked why you raise up the price without any reasons?? She answered: "We had so many claims this year and the company paid too much money to cover them". I asked: "But I didn’t get any claims or tickets. I have been with CDI. The price never rose up. On the contrary, they used to give me yearly 10% discount because I never had any accidents or tickets. Plus they gave me a lot of benefits such as: Family Protection Endorsement Comprehensive Cover - Limited Glass Accident Forgiveness (Accident rating waiver endorsement) PLUS PAC - OPTION B: Loss of Use, Legal Liability for Damage to Non-Owned Automobiles and Emergency Service Expense endorsements". She tried to push me to accept some reduction of my coverage to try to reduce the price. It is a fake way to rise up the price. After pressure, I did accept. This year is the fourth. Again. The same stupid conversation. Same question. Why you raised up the price again?? The agent answered: "We had a lot of claims, cost the company too much. And all the clients are in the same pool". I asked: "Is it fair to take money from me and give it to careless drivers and the bad drivers?" He answered: "If you need to fix a pumper, it will cost more than what you pay". I told him "this is the nature of your business like so many other insurance companies. You don’t do special things. If your owners of this company are not happy with this business, they have to shut it down". Anyway. I am so sorry if my notes big. But I wouldn’t give any quarter star but unfortunately, the minimum is one. I am looking now for another company and will leave it soon.

Auto Insurance

It's funny how they "renew" your insurance for another year, when you clearly told them to cancel it before it expires. I called many times to make sure it's cancelled. They keep insisting and asking why am I cancelling it. 5th times that I called, Why did I receive a new insurance card and it looks like it's been renewed, so then I asked, why is this? He said he does not have any access to the account, try calling again tomorrow. Called again for the 6th time, finally a nicer person picked up and called me back the next day to fix the issue (hopefully). Still waiting for them to give me my money back (deposit) and the answer and a confirmation that my insurance has been cancelled. Overall, the answer was "THEY MADE A MISTAKE" of cancelling my insurance, they renewed it instead. This has been almost a month, until now.

Full of Dishonest people

The most disastrous insurance company – lying adjusters, lying people who work for them. I had a full coverage policy that was supposed to cover me in case of an accident. They say - you can get a rental car for about $1,500 dollars till your car gets fixed but my car was a write-off and they only provided a rental car for 5 day which costed $250. It has been 4 month and they have not sent my cheque, they claim that it was sent once and went to the wrong address. Yet, I still don't know how long will it take for me to get my cheque. They are scammers and liars who are sitting behind their desks and fool people.

No savings here ...

I was an automatic client due to merger with Canadian Direct & my premium increased 27% ... no changes other than Belair over the past year

I was told if I let them do a credit check I could get more discounts - Really?

Also an increase in premium following a move of a few km - still in New Westminster ...

Billing statement does not provide a breakdown of premium per item ...
I received 3 letters - all different dates & all with different premiums

To say that I was unimpressed would be a huge understatement.
