Speechless

I am totally speechless of the nightmare I have lived through with this insurer. I've refused my claim based on no evidence other than simply saying that they do not believe me. I have been their client for 5 years and always was a good client with no issues.

For me it was a matter of principle to have justice and this is why I have spent close to $15000 of my savings to sue them in court. So 2 years passed by before I finally see the first day of trial. I am overwhelmed with emotions that justice will be rendered to these dishonest people, a step most of honest Canadians don't have the means of getting to. And guess what? to my biggest astonishment, I witness for the first time that their influence extends to court. I lose...I realize to what point the whole process is staged or bribed or both. Only then you realize that you are facing a simple insurer but an enormous machine capable of spending 10 times more simply not have you win the trial, so that a precedent cannot be set for the future for normal people to go this way.

Astonishingly, I realize that we have to deal with the same issues that people in corrupt underdeveloped countries. So, spread the word if you have been in the same situation.

Unreliable & Untrustworthy

This company, Belairdirect Insurance underwritten by Intact, are nothing but a bunch of crooks. I recently called in to submit a claim in regards to 'stone chip' damage along the top roof panel above the window on one of our vehicles. The damaged area had increasingly rusted and if not fixed, will only get worse and could become a safety issue in regards to the window itself. There is absolutely no other rust on the vehicle, as we Krown yearly. Was not impressed with the handling of this claim from the beginning by Belairdirect Insurance. From the start, they were uninterested in accepting our claim. It was made to seem that the problem was due to routine wear and tear, and would not be covered. I informed them that it was not the case. The rust problems and damage was due to stone chipping from debris thrown up by construction trucks on the highway in Ontario. They gave us the run around from the start, at one point telling us that a Claims Appraiser would inspect the vehicle and no Appraiser showed after we went through the inconvenience of leaving the vehicle at the auto body shop, twice. I called Belaridirect and was informed that no appraisal had been set-up in the first place. I can assure that I checked twice to confirm the date for the appraisal. So, it is my view that after the difficult time I was given in regards to this claim, that Belairdirect never had any intention of doing anything with it and therefore never set up the appraisal. No actual Appraiser ever showed up, instead, they requested photos be sent. Based on these photos off the internet, they have determined not to cover the claim. This is insane, to say the least, and unacceptable, and not why we pay insurance. The vehicle was struck while being driven on the highway by stones, that caused the damage. If driving on any roadway in Ontario and a flying object struck the car, it is an accident, regardless of fault. In fact, it doesn't matter if the car was parked in our driveway and something fell or struck the vehicle, it is still an accident and covered by Comprehensive. Belairdirect's attempt to classify this as normal wear and rust is ridiculous and confirmed by the Manager of the Autobody shop with which we deal. We carry Comprehensive coverage for a reason, and it does not matter whether the ‘flying stones’ or debris strikes the glass window, headlight, grill or any other specific part of the vehicle - Comprehensive: With this option, you are covered for any threat or danger other than collision, including theft, damage or loss caused by vandalism, projectiles, and falling or flying objects such as stones kicked up by a truck in front of the vehicle. The only important thing to remember is that this coverage applies to the vehicle only, not passengers. I have discussed this with the Shop Manager and a very experienced bodywork tradesman, and they stated that the damage was caused by stones/debris striking the vehicle in that spot. So this is nothing but a ploy for Belairdirect to get out of their responsibility and not cover a legitimate claim. We were customers with Belairdirect for 10 years plus and have not even had a claim in over seven plus years. To start being given a difficult time, just when we need the help of our insurance company is a disappointment. We have attempted to resolve this matter with the company but to no avail. We will be getting rid of Belairdirect as our Insurance provider because of this incident and their unreliability in terms of providing coverage. We filed a complaint with General Insurance OmbudService of Ontario and will also be contacting other government and media consumer protection and advocate agencies to ensure this story gets out to the public and on file. The Belairdirect Insurance company already has a noted reputation for this kind of despicable conduct and rip-off, and now we understand the reason. We have owned vehicles, been driving and have carried insurance for over 40 years - STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

BEWARE BELAIR

by oneP'Doffcustomer on Feb 11, 2016

I have been a costumer of belair direct for 1.5 years. Recently a electrical fire started in my vehicle, completely rendering my vehicle. When I first signed up with belair I was in a rush to get my policy started. The agent who sold me my policy did not clarify with me the certain coverage my policy had. Paying $2900 dollars I figured I had basic and comprehensive coverage, turns out the agent only listed me on for liability. I purchased my vehicle with a loan of $10000 and stated to the agent when I started my policy. At no point did they offer me any coverage to ensure I would be covered in any circumstances where the vehicle would be damaged or a loss. Since they do all their business over the phone, you will not see your policy package for a couple months. When they policy package came in the mail, looking over it I assumed based on what I was reading I had coverage for property damages. Turns out you really need to look at what BS they are sending you. This company is 100% a scam. All they care about is taking your money and putting it in their pockets. That's about the only thing they are good at doing. Now I am $8000 dollars in debt with no vehicle to get to and from work. Thanks Belair Direct!

Unprofessional & deceitful now

I've been a customer with Belair (home and auto) for more than 20 years. Never had a home claim. But I've had a few claims on the car. In each case, the other party was at-fault. My PAST experiences were all good but ... Recently, a fellow damaged my car in a parking lot. A church parking lot. He confessed at the rectory. The honourable gentleman decided to put it through insurance (he was also with Belair.)
I got a fool for an adjuster and the others I had to deal with were rude and insulting.
Asked by the insurance rep if my car had damage other than from the accident, I said 'no.' Four year old car, 30,000 km, kept in a private garage, my car was spotless. Customer 'service' rep said dismissively 'yeah, everyone says that.' Has she ever seen my car?
Several days into the process, I was asked if I thought the other guy had been injured! Gee, let me check my medical degree! Furthermore, I wasn't there, I was in the church. Furthermore, he's a Belair client, too. Surely they had his contact info already, why ask me?! Utterly irrational.
Nearly a week later, I was told I should go to the Collision Reporting Centre, which flabbergasted the officer on duty. Hearing the details, he said any other insurance company would not have wasted time on such a thing.
A technician at a repair place (insurance company approved) told me they have a lot of trouble taking care of cases for Belair (and Intact - same company) now that they pad their bottom line by hiring cheap, less qualified adjusters. The adjusters do not listen and, apparently, don't think they need to.
Another insurer informed me that Belair had assigned me some blame for this incident even though Belair's MyProfile page indicates otherwise! Sneaky Belair tells ME one thing while committing deceit and attempting to sabotage me so that I wouldn't change insurers or would have to pay much higher rates. Nice duplicity buddy, but my police report says otherwise. And so does my witness, the Reverend.
And so does my new insurer.
Beware reviews from people who are happy with Belair and have never had a claim. Remember why you have insurance? Consider what happened to me with what must be the simplest of cases.
p.s. I don't pay more with my new insurer (despite Belair's conniving and their trying to raise my rates this year, undoubtedly because I dared to complain to them about the way this claim was handled). Also cancellation fees are a pro-rated percentage of your premium. It cost me $35 (6%) to get rid of Belair. A bargain!

Worst. Ever.

I wish I could give them a 0 star rating.
Everyone that is so happy with their insurance, just wait till you have a claim. For an accident that wasn't even my fault (someone ran a red light) I had originally thought everything was going to be easy our first insurance adjuster was fantastic everything was moving along. And a few weeks in she quit. (I Wonder why) We were assigned a new adjuster who to say was (is) incompetent is an understatement. Not sending proper documentation, saying he never received paper work when it was sent so many times. It's at the point now that we are faxing the documents daily, the same ones over and over again. Because it's been 10 months. He was caught in lies with our chiropractor and physiotherapist. Saying he never received paper work, when she had called 20 minutes prior and talked to another person who said yes all the paper work has been documented and is in the file, blatantly 20 minutes later he said no it wasn't there. It wasn't until she said well that's funny because i talked to so and so 20 minutes ago and says its in the file on the computer. They also got told the cheque was in the mail. A month later, no cheque still. Never returns calls, it literaly takes weeks and weeks of calling and leaving voicemails, and talking to other representatives to get this guy to do his job. This is just the short jist of the run around Belair has been giving me. I wish I could be this incompetent at my profession and still maintain a job. The only reason I haven't cancelled yet is because i cannot afford the cancellation fee since I've had to pay out of pocket for all treatments from this car accident. This is how they treat a 10 year customer.

Side note i moved across the town ( same town outside the GTA) and my insurance went up 92 dollars a month. For the same insurance policy I still drive to the same place of employment the car is still parked in a private driveway. Another person who lives in the house is with another company and insurance didn't move a penny. Talk about a scam.

November 1st Belair is being cancelled in this house.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

For respect fo elsewhere

They sale supplementary product with bold face lie and false information, not informing you of your own obligation, had a complaint going with them for over 2 weeks never heard back from them, the person in charge of my file was never available and never returned calls. I went to settle the claim side and warned them if they charged me of the extra bogus protection I would cancel my home insurance with them and go elsewhere, and surprise surprise they did charge me for it so I cancelled my home insurance went with Desjardins better protection at a better price, and a more courteous service.

Speaking of which Belairdirect as ZERO respect for the LGBT community, total disrespect, misgendering and dissmisiveness by their staff, really not impressed, not doing business with them in the future that's for sure.
