False Advertising

The rates they advertise through Google Ads are misleading. Many hidden fees and they've applied discounts that don't exist.

Poor customer service

My first and only accident I ever had was three years ago! My premiums went up I accepted that. Since then my premiums came down and I was excited thinking I was doing fine, I never had not even a speeding ticket and now my Insurance was up for renewal my premium jumped from $175.00 to $257.00 without even an explanation as to why it has gone up, the sales representative can't even tell me why my premiums went all she did was talk a bunch of bull.

I feel robbed!

by Siguimars on Jul 3, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Last year I decided to try out Belairdirect as the quote seemed reasonable at the time. I had absolutely no claims throughout the year, not even a ticket. When I called, they even praised my driving record. However, I just received my renewal documents and my car insurance went up 37%! My home insurance went up another 20%! Feeling robbed right now and quite honestly surprised this is allowed by law. Needless to say, I will not be renewing with them... I would give them - 0 stars if I could.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Expensive

by MANITOBA on Jun 3, 2019
1.5 out of 5 stars

I was previously insured with Belair in Ontario, paid $131 monthly full coverage, I moved to Alberta and my monthly payment was now $352. I have been with the company for 7 years, I have a perfect driving record and find it crazy expensive. Fast forward 3 months of being covered in Alberta, I moved to Manitoba so naturally, I switched my license and insurance. I now pay $128 monthly. I called Belair to cancel my insurance and they charged me a $250 cancellation fee. I moved, I did not just switch companies. I was told if I moved provinces that I would not be subject to cancellation fees but was obviously lied to. I wasn't offered a break or anything she was just like well this is what it is. So overall not impressed with the company but again, who likes insurance companies...

Juices customers on 2nd year

by Zack on Mar 16, 2019

I do NOT recommend Belair under any circumstances. No one wants to deal with insurance companies more than they need to. Wasting hours on the phone isn't fun. Belair sent me an email after one year of coverage, reasonably priced, saying that my new term would come up soon. I had to log into to see the changes. I logged in and rates were increasing 28% (in one year) for a 36-year-old married woman with a perfect driving record and no claims. (My car is a 2017 Chevy) This is bad business. I gave them a chance to explain and they put me on hold and wasted more of my time before giving me a response that had nothing to do with me. (Other people's claims caused my rate to go up.) Don't get involved with this company, it practices bad business.

Poor quality

Their premiums are much too high; and, if you run into an issue, they claim they cannot help you at all! My husband got into a serious accident (non-auto) and money was tight. Instead of delaying the payment, they made it bounce so they could then come after you for the full annual amount! Seriously! I have since found a much better insurance at a 1/3 of the cost Belair was charging me! They are not as good as they claim to be!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Auto insurance increase

by Dave on Feb 14, 2019

I have been with Belairdirect insurance for several years without any claims. I just received my renewal and they have incorporated a 60% rate increase. This is outrageous and I will be removing all my business from Belair. If ICBC has been characterized as a dumpster fire, I'm not sure what words to use for Belair

Avoid this company

I have been with them for over 3 years, no claim whatsoever and no tickets. This year when the renewal of both my car and house insurance came, they had increased both of them by 23%. When I called, they were not able to provide any explanation and said that this was due to inflation! Really! A 23% inflation rate!!!

Avoid this company!

Overpriced insurance and once they lock you in, they'll jack up the costs and treat you like a number. Belairdirect doesn't care about the customer, they just care about signing you up for a year and taking your money.

Car insurance renewal

by Jflisiak on Jan 5, 2019

The worst company, after they bought it from CDI nothing but increase. According to the employee I was lucky most of the people insurance went up 60 percent. My was only 50 percent. Why do that spend the money on advertising? Just to mention no claims for I think 30 years.
