Belairdirect rating

by Tilak Banerjee (Dr.) on Jan 6, 2019
5 out of 5 stars

As a satisfied client, I shall remain with Belairdirect in the foreseeable future, because of its competitive premium rates on both auto and home insurance, as well as for the quality of service this company has provided, especially with regard to the residential claim I had to make after severe storm-damage to the roof of my property.

Car insurance renewal

by Jflisiak on Jan 5, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

The worst company, after they bought it from CDI nothing but increase. According to the employee I was lucky most of the people insurance went up 60 percent. My was only 50 percent. Why do that spend the money on advertising? Just to mention no claims for I think 30 years.

Don't go with them

by David N on Jan 3, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

In the beginning, they seemed nice. Then, I had a non-responsible accident about 4 months ago and it took about 2 months for them to figure it out. I had to call about 20 times at least, they did not do what they were telling me... And then, they increased the price of insurance for my new car at about twice the price that I would get with other insurances. I told them I wouldn't continue the contract (ending a Month later) and they renewed it at an even higher price anyways. I called 3 Days later and they say they will charge me 240 $ do resign my Contract. I'm furious!

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Terrible and fraudulent

by IU on Jan 3, 2019

Fraudulent Insurance Company, avoid at any cost. After buying Canadian Direct Insurance, Beladirect has increased the premium from 1,275 Cad to 1,800 without any reasons... I've changed my MDX 2016 to the same MDX 2019, and they increased the premium from 1,800 Cad to 2,775 Cad (I had no accidents, new car with no rating yet :). Avoid, avoid, avoid

Unfair price increases

by Anton on Dec 29, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

My rate has gone up by $800, or 30%. But I have no clams, no tickets, no decrease in credit score, no change in address. Think twice before dealing with this company. FYI according to FSCO average rate increase in Ontario was around 5%. It means based on my perfect record I should get something between a decrease or a minuscule increase.

Put a reminder to cancel

by Enough on Dec 16, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

For the second year running they auto renew my policy at an unfavourable rate without informing me except by a single email received three months beforehand. I never asked to be contacted by email. This leaves you with two choices: pay up or pay a huge cancellation fee. They should not be operating. The insurance itself is OK just the way they operate is ...as everyone else points out...sleazy. Just quit them.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Premium Increases

by Paytoomuch on Dec 12, 2018

Horrible scam of an insurance company. Do not go with them. Initially, I had good experiences with Belair, for the first car I insured on my own. However, when I got a new car, I was not happy with the premium I was given. However, I was promised by the woman on the phone that as long as I went yet another year accident-free (I had been 10 years accident and ticket free at this point), my premium would decrease. It was based on that information that I decided to stick it out and stay with them, as I felt that staying with the same insurance company would be easier and better off for me in the end. Recently, I got my renewal and was shocked to see that it had gone up substantially. I called, bewildered at the fact that despite another year of being accident and ticket free, I was getting an increase. They assured me that this is how it is for everyone, due to the number of accidents. “Oh,” they said, “you have an amazing driving record! You should join our driving program to receive a discount!” I laughed, saying “if I’m such an amazing driver, why am I paying this insane amount with ten years of no accidents or tickets on my record”. They had no good answer, and it felt amazing the next day when I called to say I am cancelling my insurance with them.

Belair = Greed

by Paul on Dec 7, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

People, please shop for cheaper insurance quotes, Belair's commercials are a joke. I was a client for many years waiting for 2 at-fault accidents to drop off my record. I was so excited to renew my coverage then at renewal time I received a letter from Belair stating: congratulations, your insurance record is finally clear. But instead of lowering my very high $8000/yr coverage ... Belair was "kind" enough to inform me that they won't be raising my rates at this time. It was like a punch in the face. I immediately called to cancel Belair and got insurance quotes up to 60% cheaper from many other companies. Moral of the story...Please shop around and stay away from Belair Insurance.

Sleazy and mediocre service

by Tadous on Dec 6, 2018
2 out of 5 stars

I too had been with Belair for several years and was shocked when I received my renewal which was more than $200 a year more than what I had paid the previous year, in spite of having had no accidents and no claims. The agent explained that this had nothing to do with the calculation of my new premium. I found this absurd and was told that the price hike was due to increased costs and inflation, blah blah blah. I decided to go with a group insurer here in Québec that offered me a similar plan at a much lower price with warm, intelligent people providing the service. The sleaziest bit was a month after I cancelled, 122$ was debited out of my account because of the ''valeur à neuf'' insurance I had agreed to when getting my plan. The agent told me I could cancel it at any time. He didn't tell me that by cancelling early I would be forced to pay the remaining amount on the contract. I had no idea it was a contract. I thought it was just part of my insurance policy. I am a very understanding person, but this company pissed me off.

Insurance Should not Increase

by dusnab on Nov 5, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

I purchased insurance from these guys and at first I was getting a good deal but after my first year my premium should have gone down but instead, it increased by 45$ and I had not been in any accidents nor did I get any tickets in the year. I contacted customer service to ask why I was getting an increase in my monthly payments. I contacted customer service and discussed the situation and it was everyone apparently had their insurance increased due to increased accidents as a whole. Anyway, it was whatever to me, so I moved on but following my next yearly update my insurance decreased but BelAir required me to do a credit check in order for me to continue monthly payments. Now to me these guys don't report to any credit agencies and don't report that I am making my payments on time and nor have I ever been late on a payment. So to treat your insurance like it is a credit product is bogus. I got another insurance quote from 4 other companies and they were anywhere from 100-160$ cheaper and so I have switched insurance companies and I recommend you avoid BelAir Direct. In the 10 years I have been driving I have received 1 speeding ticket and have been in 1 accident that I was at fault for. Credit checks and this type of treatment should be left with the credit card and bank companies only. Companies that actually lend you money.
