I got my policy done with these guys on December 24, 2018. They did almost everything wrong on my policy such as my bank account etc. Plus they quoted me more than $6k for my 2019 Toyota Corolla (the car itself is $20500). I wanted to cancel my policy and they charged me just to cancel my policy $650!!!
Belair is the worst insurance company we’ve ever had. According to them, we are not allowed to switch or have too many vehicles in our possession. They wanted us to send copies of our ownerships as we did and apparently they didn’t get them the first few times, then they did. Now they're saying because we have had too many vehicles and whatnot, now they cancelled us without sending out a letter within the 30 days and now they don’t know if they will reinstate us even with sending in the letter. They want us to fill out and sign when they had a copy down there, so, all in all, they don’t know what they are doing down there. My advice is to shop around for a different insurance company
In the beginning, they seemed nice. Then, I had a non-responsible accident about 4 months ago and it took about 2 months for them to figure it out. I had to call about 20 times at least, they did not do what they were telling me... And then, they increased the price of insurance for my new car at about twice the price that I would get with other insurances. I told them I wouldn't continue the contract (ending a Month later) and they renewed it at an even higher price anyways. I called 3 Days later and they say they will charge me 240 $ do resign my Contract. I'm furious!
If you deal with Belairdirect for insurance then I would look for another insurance company. I contacted them the week following the death of my mother-in-law to notify them of her passing. They said they could only do something if they were speaking to the executor of her will. I told them she didn't have a will. I also sent them a copy of her death certificate showing she died on Nov 24th. They proceeded to take out 2 payments (car and apartment contents) for insurance from her account on Dec 10th - even though at that point they had proof that she died. They still are saying they can't cancel her insurance without a will and my only other option is to put a stop payment on the 2 automatic withdrawals for the insurance to show as unpaid and therefore cancelled. This will cost money to stop each of these Jan payments so now it could cost well over $100 to get Belair to stop 2 insurance policies on someone who died over a month ago. I think this is horrific for a company to do something like this. It's hard enough what the family is going through never mind these money hungry companies taking advantage of the situation. She was the only name on the policy so even if anything had happened we couldn't make a claim because she is no longer with us. I don't understand how a death certificate is not enough to cancel insurance - EVERYTHING else we had to cancel or stop was done either with or without the death certificate and yet and the insurance company won't do it. I will NEVER use Belairdirect and I'm hoping this will make a lot of people stop and think about switching to another insurance company if they unfortunately have insurance with them now.
I too had been with Belair for several years and was shocked when I received my renewal which was more than $200 a year more than what I had paid the previous year, in spite of having had no accidents and no claims. The agent explained that this had nothing to do with the calculation of my new premium. I found this absurd and was told that the price hike was due to increased costs and inflation, blah blah blah. I decided to go with a group insurer here in Québec that offered me a similar plan at a much lower price with warm, intelligent people providing the service. The sleaziest bit was a month after I cancelled, 122$ was debited out of my account because of the ''valeur à neuf'' insurance I had agreed to when getting my plan. The agent told me I could cancel it at any time. He didn't tell me that by cancelling early I would be forced to pay the remaining amount on the contract. I had no idea it was a contract. I thought it was just part of my insurance policy. I am a very understanding person, but this company pissed me off.
Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.
Just called my auto insurance (Bellair) to tell them I was about to sell my car tomorrow. I asked what was the insurance cancellation procedure: Answer: I got to pay 182$ of cancellation fees! Client for almost 3 years, never claimed anything and they ask from me 182$ of cancellation fees ??? Pick any insurance company but not Belairdirect.
The worse experience I've ever had with an Insurance company. I cancelled my policy on September 23, 2018. First of all, I was charged $100 for cancellation fees. Then I was told it will take a month for them to process my refund check. I questioned why, when I purchased the policy with a credit card, and why can't they refund the money to my credit card. Today is November 15, 2018, and a dozen or more calls to this incompetent company, I still haven't received a refund. That's 8 days short of two months since I cancelled this policy and still no refund. They keep telling me that Canada Post is to be blamed for the delay. Belairdirect is a farce
Absolute scam of a company. Despite an absolutely clean record, by moving away to school, not driving to work anymore, and cutting my car usage by over half, my insurance jumped over 100$. Then, because of this outrageous fee, I jumped to Desjardins, which was 80$ a month cheaper, even though it was the exact same insurance bundle. They then charged a 256$ cancellation fee, even though I did not agree to renew after 12 months. To top it all off, the company then took out 200$ more from my account without any authorization to do so. On top of stealing from my account, I was told: “That’s just how we do things across the board.” Stay away from this company
If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.
After 15 years with the same insurance company, Belair sends me out an application form, says I did not fill it out properly with all the information they have on file (to determine my coverage/deductible/rates) and terminates my vehicle insurance. No, they did not phone me when they received my application to discuss anything, they just sent a termination letter! This has to go on record as the worst customer experience department service ever.
The quotes are too high and when I cancelled, they said I owe them money and try to put me in the collection agency! Never would I tell anyone to use ever!
