False Advertising

The rates they advertise through Google Ads are misleading. Many hidden fees and they've applied discounts that don't exist.

Poor customer service

My first and only accident I ever had was three years ago! My premiums went up I accepted that. Since then my premiums came down and I was excited thinking I was doing fine, I never had not even a speeding ticket and now my Insurance was up for renewal my premium jumped from $175.00 to $257.00 without even an explanation as to why it has gone up, the sales representative can't even tell me why my premiums went all she did was talk a bunch of bull.

I feel robbed!

by Siguimars on Jul 3, 2019
1 out of 5 stars

Last year I decided to try out Belairdirect as the quote seemed reasonable at the time. I had absolutely no claims throughout the year, not even a ticket. When I called, they even praised my driving record. However, I just received my renewal documents and my car insurance went up 37%! My home insurance went up another 20%! Feeling robbed right now and quite honestly surprised this is allowed by law. Needless to say, I will not be renewing with them... I would give them - 0 stars if I could.

Worst Experience of my life

Great at accepting premiums poor service when you need them. I had minor cosmetic damage and a punctured tire after we got hit while stopped at a red light and were found at 0 fault. Then the claims process started and Belair has used every underhanded trick in the book to try and settle with us for a low ball offer even though I believe the other driver's insurance company will make them whole at the end of the day. They have bullied my girlfriend, threatened to salvage her car before we agreed to a settlement, consistently changed the price they are offering, refuse to complete a full estimate of the damage, bait and switch the value of the offers. When calculating the price they use comparable vehicles that are 6 months old. After I ran CARFAX reports on the vehicles I found a bunch had previous accidents, were used as rentals and commercial vehicles and even had smaller engines and manual transmissions, along with almost double the kilometers driven. Basically, the cheapest vehicle you could find and still call it almost a comparable car. Luckily, we had just bought a second vehicle and are able to get by on one car. I can see how someone without that option can be highly pressured and pushed into taken a minimal settlement as this has dragged on for almost 6 weeks now and we had to return the rental that was provided a few days after the accident. Stay away from the Belair as one day you may need them and they will not be there.

4 Month Headache

I recently had to file a total loss claim with Belair. Please do not ever insure your vehicle with this company. My claim took for months to settle. They frequently said they would call me back within two or three days and never once did. They didn't even look at the police report until three months into the process. They take advantage of consumers who don't know any better. I could go on but you get the point.
Never use this company

VERY BAD INSURANCE COMPANY

by Dmitriy Sukhov on Nov 11, 2016

Very, very, very bad insurance company. I had and accident on August 16th. Today is a November, 11th. I have been calling, sending emails no response from my adjuster at all!!! Her name is Marilen P. – very rude person. First, she said to me that she called a dealership where I bought a car and confirmed the price, and it was 10,000$ cheaper than the price I paid for it. When I called a dealership, that same person who talked to her, said that she has never asked for the price. So, I called her – no response, so after 10 times trying, I got her on the phone. And she said, we starting an investigation, she has never said, why or anything. So, I have been waiting for 4 months paying for insurance, while I don't even have a car. Very, very bad experience.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

impossible to deal with

I was moving from Hamilton to Whitby and I called to get a quote as to what my premium would look like after, quote said it would go down 40$/month - great - moved called a week later to change address - got a guy named Trevor L. who actually had the worst phone manners I have ever encountered in my adult life at one point telling me "I have had a hard day" after snapping at me more than once. He tells me my rate is only going down by 4$ with no explanation why - I call back get another agent who fixes what he did and apologized for Trevor's behavior. However next day Trevor himself calls me says he doesn't appreciate me going 'above his head' and put my account back to the premium he set it at take it or leave it….makes no sense.

Pay you, to pay you?

by StudentsAreYourFuture on Mar 6, 2015

Its bad enough insurance costs are so high for people starting to drive or could finally afford a car, but on top of that if you're not rich enough to pay the entire year all at once, you are forced to pay an additional 3% of your payment TO PAY THEM! to make matters worse the higher you pay already, the more money you have to give them.

As a person of little means, I need every advantage to get a good job and make the money I need to cover the rising costs of living in a world designed for people who already have money. To tell me one number that's already tough to swallow just to have a vehicle to get me to work or school, and then tell me I have to pay you, JUST TO PAY YOU?!?! You don't need to spit in my face, and give the kids with rich parents a free ride. I feel like in 10 years, when your company is filled with the hard working people and students struggling to pay, to pay you, they will be smart enough to change your archaic high class loving policies, to something that respects people as equals from all classes.

0 stars would be more accurate

I was a happy customer for 3 years.
Because of this, I decided to quote tenant insurance with Belair Direct.
Note: I was moving out of my parents house, leaving my car at home for times when I visited and eventually sell the car when it was no longer useful.
Belair Direct processed my quote request for tenant insurance, then called to inform me my car insurance would be increasing by $500 because I was moving to a different neighbourhood. I told them that I had no intention of moving the car, it would actually be driven less, I had not leased a parking spot at my new location and would sign any documentation necessary to avoid the increase. I was told that I had "implied the vehicle was moving" through my quote request, and there was nothing they could do.
Instead of providing them with additional money for an additional service, they tried to force me to pay more for the service I started with.
I ended up paying to cancel my car insurance because I was so frustrated, and I sold my car much earlier than I had expected to.
Now, they continue to email, mail and phone my parents house to discuss "important updates to my car insurance", even though it's been 2 years since I've cancelled.
They're a great company until you have any type of problem. Then, you can't get the same person on the phone no matter what you try, and you have to explain your situation to every new person.

Stay away. Far, far away.

Rate increase for no reason

by whatwhy on Nov 25, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

Just received my renewal documents, my annual rate is going up by $200 for no reason. I called and they couldn't even explain why, just said that their rates must have increased. The icing on the cake is that when I called they increased my rate even MORE when I said my usage of the car had increased by a few thousand km (vs what I estimated when I first bought the policy). So now it's a $300 annual increase. And I'm accident, claim free etc. I thought Ontario is supposed to lowering auto insurance rates??? I am shopping around for a new company.
