Belairdirect Auto Insurance Reviews

I have had so many poor experiences over the years with this insurance Bellair/Intact/Canadian Direct, I could write 20 pages about how they mistreat customers. I will try to list a couple of the most important and keep short.

Claims: If you are at fault, they will fight you to the death before they payout anything of what you are due. I had to take them to court to get them to pay a standard claim. Despite them hiring a lawyer, flying out their Claims mgr. to testify in court, the judge gave me a full judgement, plus ALL my legal costs and I have no legal background whatsoever. Please believe me, you don't want the stress of fighting for what you are due with a poor insurance company. I don't care how cheap your policy is, ITS JUST NOT WORTH IT.

Trust: Automatic monthly debit. Just like a shady gym membership company, do not give them automatic debit access to your money. They will take whatever they deem they are entitled to and cite that your insurance policy states that they can and without notice. Which it does and they take full advantage of. Good luck trying to get a fair remedy when they already have your money.

Obnoxious, bullying and Rude staff. The way they resolve complaints is to be threatening and unreasonable.

Bottom line, there are many insurance companies available and I don't think any have a stellar reputation. But this one is the worst. Save yourself the headache and being ripped off. I am now 8 years claims free and counted down everyone of those days. to the day that I could be free of them and take my business elsewhere.

I was insured with Belairdirect for 13 years with multiple vehicles and home insurance. The last few years with (4) vehicles so they were pulling some good coin from me every month; My son slid into the ditch Jan 28, 2013 from an ice storm and had a small fender-bender in a mall parking lot in 2015. So they cancelled my insurance - well THANK YOU !
Their "rules" are (2) "at fault" claims and you're OUT ! regardless of the circumstances and I kinda get that. BUT from a dollar-value I was worth it and still am with (4) vehicles & Home Ins. So I cancelled my home insurance with them Sept 28 2016 and have new auto insurance. THAT'S CHEAPER ! so THANK YOU BELAIRDIRECT for cancelling my insurance you are saving me money...who knew :). If my son had (2) "chargeable" at-fault accidents I would get that a little more.

I was in an automobile accident and in the span of two weeks my claim was transferred to four different adjusters. No one seems to be able to update me on the status of my claim or whether someone has even been able to view my vehicle and assess the damage. The garage has been more forthcoming than this sham of an insurance company. They don't seem to have a problem withdrawing money out of my account every month but the status of a claim...now that's asking for too much! While Belair Direct may offer better rates than other insurance companies, you get what you pay for! Avoid insuring with Belair Direct at all costs.

A taxi pulled out in front of me. Clearly NOT my fault even by the police. They claimed they could not find the other's insurance number and wanted to keep deductible even though it was not my fault!. 5 weeks later after I had messaged them and mentioned lawyer and police they were willing to settle and promised a cheque would be delivered on a certain day the cheque never arrived. I am now without a vehicle, they are taking the rental they gave me away and I no longer have any way of getting to so I will lose my job. I was talking to a lawyer and he said it sounds like a scam to keep my deductible. I did some searching and found the others info in 10 minutes. Something they could not do in 5 weeks. The police already want to talk to them as they gave me a number to give to them that they should call.
Avoid this company at all cost!

I'm now well into my second year with this company. I just recently moved and switched over my address. Apparently, my new address is such a high risk area that my premium has gone up $860 per year.. Are you kidding me?! My policy expires in February and there's no way I'll renew. My insurance went from under $2100 a year up to $2900. I was thinking about adding a second vehicle, but I quickly changed my mind when I was quoted almost $5000 per year for two vehicles. Where's the multi-vehicle discount they tout on about so much? (Full coverage on one and just liability on the other)

I was also informed that I don't have accident forgiveness unless I pay extra to add it to my policy now before anything happens. They never bothered to tell me this when I signed up.

In addition, I had a speeding ticket for 15 KM/H over about 3 and a half years ago. I was told that it's still on my record with Belair until my policy renewal? What?! So they can increase my rates through the roof for a change of address, but they can't remove the ticket until renewal? What a scam.

I highly recommend avoiding this company at all costs.

belairdirect website misrepresents what they really offer. when they provide a quote, they don't tell you that they are basing it on the client switching all other insurances to them. they don't give you a straight answer as what your insurance will be. they make you call in, waste half of your day just to provide you with a ridiculous number which you wished you had never called them.

I have been with Canadian Direct for 15 years love them very much excellent staff and take good care of there clients. After sold out to belair is the worst of the worst lie to you, cheat you, untrustworthy they are all about the money not the people stay away from these crooks they are no good company.

Mistakes after mistakes- First they kept my old car insured instead of my new one, so I was driving an uninsured care- then when is time for me to change cars they advise that they don't do classic cars (20 years old or older) and send me to a broker (Powell) who literally wants to grab your wallet - the price was triple that what I receive from another insurance 20 minutes later- Bell Air is a rip off and have no accountability for their business practice - If you value your car/ house and want a respectable insurance that can do what they supposed to do when you have a claim stay away from Bell Air - find yourself a different one.
