I should have swithced

by dallasusa on Aug 5, 2020

I should have switched insurance companies when Desjardin took over for State Farm. They over-billed me for several years and told me nothing about a cancellation fee. I would rather walk than insure another vehicle with these criminals.

Stay away from Desjardins

They’ll increase your insurance every year they don’t care about your clean driving records they’ll always increase. 3 year with them paid over 15 thousand dollars for nothing.

Terrible Insurance Company

by AthenaZ on Jan 14, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

I have never checked reviews about Desjardin. However similar to the majority of other reviews here, I have been with State Farm for over 20 years for both Home and Auto and since Desjardin took over I have been charged a lot more year after year. Most recently I called to get some explanation even though I had 0 claims all my life, their agents along with their people are extremely rude and data in their system is inaccurate. I definitely DO NOT recommend them to anybody. I am searching for another reliable insurance provider for both Home and Auto.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Charge WAY too much

by nope on Oct 7, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

I was being grossly overcharged for insurance that I never made a claim with but for some reason kept increasing instead of decreasing every year. I found a company that is now charging me less than half of what Desjardins was. I cancelled my Desjardins policy and they are now charging me a whopping 18% of what was left of my yearly premium as a cancellation fee. The office claimed that the insurance agent is entitled to charge this "short rate" fee whenever you cancel a policy early, fine, I expected to pay a cancellation fee, but the amount I was charged is ludicrous. I will never purchase insurance from this company again.

Rip Off

I've had Desjardins in the past and ended up switching to another company because they were just way too expensive. I got State Farm originally, but they ended up getting bought out by Desjardins which was Certas and was forced to be stuck with them again. Honestly, they are the way to expensive. All I kept getting was increases and higher rates and a bunch of non-at-fault incidents that were documented on my record and is creating so many unnecessary discrepancies. After 2 years I've finally switched companies saving 46$ a month. It was the best decision!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Awful service, unprofessional

by Nataly on Jun 23, 2020

They increased my insurance by 60$ per month and didn't bother to let me know about that more than by mail. Unfortunately, I got this letter late and didn't cancel on time. I got a much better offer in a different company and I called my agent to ask about the penalty charge. She told me that it is going to be a 90% penalty charge and I based my decision on this information. What actually happened? well, they charged me 152%!!! When I called about that, she told me that they don't know the penalty charge amount in advance, although she told me 90%! She changed her answer every time and on most of my questions, the answer was "I don't know", she was very unprofessional and I still haven't got my money back! Agents are unprofessional and won't help you with anything! They just want to take your money, they don't even care that there is a global pandemic going on and they will still charge you an extreme amount of penalty! Don't rely on them!

Ridiculous Price Increase

by Aaron on Feb 24, 2020
1.5 out of 5 stars

The first year our insurance was $170.00 The following year it went up to 194.00 (for no reason – we had no traffic violations, a decent (2018 - so at this point a one-year-old) car. Our new quote is now $287.00. No claims have been made, nothing has happened. No tickets, no accidents, nothing. This is insane.

Overpriced for the 5-year new vehicle protection. And then I had a speeding ticket 2 years ago and then my record resets after 3 for the 10-over ticket then the final year they up charge me insurance.

Garbage

by Dejardinsiscrinal on Jan 12, 2022

I was in the hospital to come out and need to cancel insurance for a month. After being a loyal customer for nearly 6 years and paying a ridiculous amount because I had no other choice this company made 60k off me. When it finally went down I end up in the hospital for a month to be told it would take a month to get back to me to reinstate insurance. Every other time I needed something from them it was super fast and I was treated well. Now I’m told there’s a new law or rule that it takes a month. Not only was I told now I would pay a year upfront and no longer monthly. But my insurance that was 300$ a month would now be 18k a year and they couldn’t help me. Awful service awful company thieves and liars. I hope they go bankrupt ruining everyone’s lives, now the highest paying job I got in my life that requires a car I now have to quit thanks to a lot of ruined people's lives and making them have to work for minimum wage for the rest of their lives...
