New home warranty is garbage.

by Riskofignition on May 5, 2021
1 out of 5 stars

I bought a new home 2 years ago. It came with the new home warranty, so I assume, if any issues arise, that I will have assistance dealing with the builder. Wrong! There were a few minor issues after the first year. The builder ghosted me. So I filed a claim. Aviva took so long to respond that the claim was now past the 2-year coverage. So now, some of the items were past the coverage term. Finally, I got a response. It stated that they were working on the issue and that they wanted to give the contractor some time to respond. Of course, they haven't.
If you see that your builder has this home warranty insurance, assume that they are garbage. Aviva waits so long because they want to avoid paying out claims. They just want to get premiums that are associated with the warranty.

Unprofessional & rude agents. Bad policy!

by Yanka Mihaylova on May 4, 2021

Very unprofessional and rude agents, very bad policy.
WOULD RATE THEM MINUS 5 if the system allows me.
Can have your contract cancelled if you did not realize that you skip a payment. You receive straight la letter of cancellation.
Very rude agents who write that you refuse to pay if you ask for additional information or ask to speak to someone else.
DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY FOR THIS SERVICE

Rbc has no service

Rbc sells aviva insurance and does not service or even give a proof of insurance coverage. I had to search and call multiple people just to get a basic document.

Households in Alberta pay, on average, approximately $60/month in homeowners’ insurance costs. We can help to push these costs even further down. Get a house insurance quote today to start saving today. Rates start at $20/month.

Lousy

We had a flood in our home because of a crushed sewer pipe. We contacted our insurer, RBC/Aviva who claimed that the repair was covered. Upon contacting the repair company our insurer denied our claim despite a representative from the same originally claiming that the repair was covered. In the end, it cost me just under $10,000.00. Horrible company and garbage representation. Go with anyone other than RBC/Aviva. Complete scam.

Terrible service

I sold my house and they were very high on their quote for my new home so I cancelled and went with a different insurer for the new place. Aviva has continued to take payments from my bank account for the past 9 months without authorization. I keep calling my broker monthly and they keep inquiring about it. Aviva says they're behind on processing. FOR NINE MONTHS! They've taken $1000 from me without permission and counting. Goodness knows they wouldn't have granted ME 9 months grace on my payments during the pandemic...

Really bad customer service

by Bree Muffinkitty on Dec 31, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

I just contacted Aviva via email for information about insuring my home with them (I am not currently a customer with them). Got back a terse, short email that told me very little. Contacted the same person again, got a bit more info, but still not very clear or concise. Contacted the same person again for more details and was told, rather roughly, that they were closed (for the holidays?? why answer my email in the first place if they are closed??) and that I had to go through my insurance broker to get the info (my insurance broker doesn't deal with Aviva, maybe because of things like this). I guess they're just not interested in my business...

Home repairs

Aviva is a joke of a company. I put in a claim for water damage in my basement. The adjuster I had did not look at my Policy and managed to approve the company to take apart my entire basement. They left me with no walls, no shower, no flooring, NOTHING! We also could never reach this adjuster (he never answered his phone or responded to emails). We are now stuck having to pay out of our own pocket to put everything back (over $30,000). We are in a pandemic and this ridiculous company leaves us with an unfinished basement. We could have taken apart our own basement ourselves if we wanted to. Honestly don’t choose this company. They clearly have clowns working for them and you’ll just be stuck with a bigger mess than when you put in a claim.

Worst insurance company

We had two or three claims due to storms which is not in our control and they have now said they can no longer insure us as a result. This company is a joke and I would absolutely not recommend then to anyone.

Cancelled my home insurance

by Sulabh shrivastava on Oct 21, 2020
1 out of 5 stars

Due to the pandemic, I was out of work for some time and missed 2 payments for my home insurance. In 3rd month I received a letter from Aviva, they cancelled my home insurance also forcing me to pay all 2 missed payments plus $50 additional charges for late payment. When I contacted customer service to find out if I can pay the missed payment and continue coverage, I was told to pay the whole one-year premium as lumpsum plus previous chargers also stated they don't acknowledge the pandemic situation anymore and their pandemic measures are no more in place and their policy is rolled back to business in normal times. But the restrictions are back in place with the second wave however they did not consider that.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

Stay as far away as you can!

Customer for 14 years but never again! All started with premiums going up 10% per year. I get it all things do go up over time but beware. Once they got you locked in lookout! Over that duration clauses that were originally covered were later changed and required additional premiums or were removed from being covered. So in my experience double the premiums and half the coverage. Finally had enough and planned to let the coverage expire and not renew with them. I was sent multiple notifications (5 total) that my coverage ends on the said date. Today I received a notification that my policy with them has been terminated, which is fine, but oh and by the way you owe us $197 that is due immediately. This is for us to extend your policy another 30 days. How can an insurance company say our paid services end on the said date then realize you're not continuing service with them and then them arbitrarily extend you after the fact and then 30 days later advise you owe them now? Why didn't they advise this at the time they notified you of the termination date? If someone had a mishap 3 days after coverage expired would they extend these 30 days to them also? I think not. I'm not sure how they can have it both ways? Shady to the very end. The complaint also going to the Better Business Bureau if they're still around?
