Fly-by-night company staffed by the biggest collection of incompetent high school dropouts I've ever dealt with. It's basically 8 people operating out of the trunk of an old car. There is a reason they are so cheap, they are the KIA of insurance companies. Management is on par with the Thursday midnight shift at an Arby's. Will find every excuse to not honour your claim, and they depend on the "expert" opinions from people somehow more clueless than they are. Spend the extra 5 bucks a month and go with literally any other insurance company. Expect months to pass with zero communication. Even their ombudsman is clueless. Everyone probably got their jobs by being the boss's slow niece or nephew and it shows. Total rip-off
I have been having home insurance with them since 2016. Recently my house has suffered from subsidence which has been reported to Aviva. First month, they sent their surveyor (from Innovation) who advised further investigation should be carried out as she could not confirm there was subsidence. After long waiting, they sent their second surveyor on second month which confirmed the damage on the house was due to the movement of property. One month later, they said first surveyor has quit her job, so they have appointed another surveyor who believed there was no subsidence. This third surveyor (from innovation again) who only checked 20 mins and confirmed there was no subsidence. As there was no subsidence, they would not pay anything including loss of rent... The whole thing was insane as: 1. How could first surveyor confirm further investigation would be required and third surveyor just came in 20 mins and confirmed there was no subsidence? 2. So if they could have confirmed no subsidence in 20 mins, why does it take three months to confirm the result? 3. So far I know two of my neighbours all are suffering subsidence issues which they are aware of them but they just ignore 4. I sent my own Chartered building surveyor who confirmed the house is suffering subsidence issues 5. The insurance company now have sent another surveyor (Questgates) who, not surprisingly, came 20 mins and said there was no subsidence. I have spoken to several claim specialists who advised me that all the surveyors they sent (from Innovation and Questgates) would be very 'difficult'. This is my experience and I would suggest new customers to read my story before purchasing home insurance from them.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
Auto withdrawal allows AGR - AVIVA to withdraw and increase insurance premiums. I was told it was my fault for not paying closer attention to my monthly automatic withdrawals. Attempting to actually place my first claim in 32 years and being denied makes me a high-risk client, meaning expect higher premiums. When I asked for an explanation, I was told my policy had to be reviewed. No offer of being reimbursed 1300 for overpayment. It was all my fault for being preoccupied taking care of senior parents, children, work and community. Lesson learned, don't allow pre-authorized withdrawals.
Apt. flooded by the upstairs tenant, she admitted liability---I have FULL REPLACEMENT, ALL PERILS...they have not honoured that. Also paid for coverage to put me up in a hotel if my residence was not liveable during flood mitigation...Aviva did not secure a hotel/motel...excuse--they do not have a direct billing account service or company credit card for that service; my friend used their credit card. Aviva maintains that abnormal destructive humidity levels are not caused by water, pictures, witnesses and expenses verified by a commissioner of oaths, made no difference...badgering, intimidation tactics - phone call after phone call---this company used to be Pilot, named by Readers Digest as "Insurers from Hell"--Pilot is Aviva....Leopard does not change it's spots
Their contractor gives it to a sub contractor who gives it to a lone home handyman to do the entire repairs. We had water damage. The result is an uncertified worker that averages 4hr per day. Complain all you want but Aviva doesn't seem concerned, the job will get done eventually and they will have minimal costs. They gave it to Promus GTA of Toronto.
My house caught fire in February 2016 and we just moved back in over one year later in March. It is a large house just under 4000sq ft. The majority of the house was completely gutted but key areas were not, including the master bedroom and bath and a couple other areas. The insurance adjustor, Geoff, gave low ball and unfair budgets throughout the process. The insurance company refused to gut the remaining portion of the house and now after only living in the house for a few days we are suffering through flooding damage due to plumbing issues. The insurance adjustor has extremely poor communication with me but I'm sure this is part of his strategy. The cabinet maker Sandy Beach cabinetry installed warped cabinets and in their attempt to rectify the defectives cabinet draws keep reinstalling the same warped drawers. In addition, the values given to our contents are completely inaccurate. For example, the list will correctly identify an item but will assign an extremely low and inaccurate value. These are just some of the issues we've faced and the process is not over yet.
Stay away from these scam artists. My wife got an bad earache when we were on vacation. Dr. bills came to a measly $150 for antibiotics. Aviva took 9 months to pay out the $150, and only after dozens of phone calls. We had never made a house insurance claim until just last week when a bucket of bleach was spilled on our driveway. They have refused the claim. I have received a new quote from a different company and found out that my Aviva policy would never have paid out the money to replace our house in case of fire as they had completly underestimated the value.
So happy I will never have to deal with them again.
Had the same provider for many years, no claims in over 30 years. They quit covering our area. Agent covered us with Aviva… nightmare experience, a year in received notice they were cancelling our coverage (one-month notice).
I think they did us a favor, having read these reviews… I would hate to see what the experience would be if we needed support!!
Overly slow resolution. Sloth speed and ghosting.
It's almost as if they do this to wait you out so that they save a buck, not pay a claim.
It's an abusive and dirty tactic.
I was paying $340 for a simple home insurance plan and condo. I went to another insurer for $150 for the same exact policy. Also, I've got charge a cancellation fee even my policy was coming to an end for $350. The previous agent told me there will be no cancellation fee since my policy will be expiring. This a total ripoff of a company, never again be their client.
