Outsourcing Incompetence

I tried to sign up for RBC insurance in advance of the closing date on our new home. Filled out the online application only to be told 'something went wrong" and I had to call them. I spoke to someone whose English was poor and was difficult to understand. He asked a number of questions and then the call was lost. He never called back. So, in a moment of poor thinking, I tried again and this time got a more helpful person who spent AN HOUR with us getting all the information. The system was terribly slow and to top it all off, at the end of it all we were REJECTED because the PROPERTY WAS TOO BIG! WHY DID WE HAVE TO WADE THROUGH AN HOUR OF QUESTIONING WHEN THE PROPERTY SIZE WAS ADDRESSED RIGHT IN THE BEGINNING? The program should have flagged this straight away so we didn't have to waste an hour of our lives. We could have been on the phone with someone else. For this reason, I would never recommend RBC Insurance to anyone. Come on RBC, you're better than that.
I lost my credit card and forgot to change the pre-pay. They charge me $50 for that without any notice. Customer service was so rude and don't let me cancel.
We have been with RBC Insurance for over 20 years. In the last 3 years, we had 2 claims, Wind damage to our roof and had water come into a house. Then about a year later a flood due to a water line break from a fish tank. When our renewal came up we were told they will not cover us anymore. We did not plan these problems but they happened! I expected our payments would go up BUT just dropped ....REALLY!. I see they think of us as a number of not a loyal customer that has their car and home insurance with them even though their prices were higher than some of their competitors. I will be moving ALL my insurance.
We contacted RBC a week before getting our home. They told us to send over some info and they could insure us the next day. Well, daily we called to get info on if they got it, and days after a 2-hour wait they would say they didn't receive it try tomorrow until it was too late to insure through them. Horrible customer service and experience.
You will need to pay first and last and then charge twice for the last month. Separate agents will contradict the policy. The ones setting up the account will quote different amounts. If cancellation is required you will be charged a 2X+ cancellation fee. Do not use this company for insurance! Their customer "service" is some of the worst I've ever experienced.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
I phoned RBC Insurance to ask for their address because I needed to mail my cheque for the next 12 months of home insurance coverage. First of all, I had a hard time understanding the man, who was either Pakistani or Indian. He took all my information, which is normal to do but put me on hold for 24 minutes! He kept coming back to the phone telling me that he just had to verify some information. He did that 6 times and finally, I just hung up, without getting a simple thing, like a mailing address. He did not bother calling me back to ask why we were cut off or if there was something wrong. I cancelled my auto insurance with RBC 4 months ago because they were useless answering my questions and looks like I'm doing the same thing regarding my home insurance. They have gotten worse since AVIVA took over!
After having tenant insurance for two years I called RBC to confirm I could cancel without penalty if I renewed my contract again, and they confirmed. Fast forward to seven months later, and they've gone back on that. They said there are no circumstances where they cancel the insurance without penalty. I need to purchase insurance for a new apartment in a few months, and I guarantee it will be with anyone other than RBC.
I had no idea that my home insurance renewed. Explained the situation as that is not what is on everyone's mind during COVID19. She didn't understand that I would happily pay a monthly but, I can't afford to pay the whole year. She told me I will be charged cancellation fee 3 days after policy renewal with the Easter holidays too, and she needed underwriter authority to credit me back the fee?!!
I switched to RBC a few years back thinking to save money (at the time I was saving $1,000 per year) but what a mistake... 1-st issue: I had water in my basement, they looked into it and determined it was not covered - I had to pay $25k to fix at my own expense. 2-nd issue: I made a modification to the house and wanted to update my info so I called them and after having wait over 30 min (to talk to their risk manager) she mentioned they are cancelling my policy! Based on the fact that an egress window was not big enough. After arguing that it met the code requirement, she changed her reason to you have a month to month renter in your house. I told her they are willing to sign for 1 year. Then she changed her reason to we actually don't want to insure the house!!! What?! 3-rd issue: She offered me to cancel on my own accord and save the bad record of having an insurance cancel my policy so I did but she needed my wife's consent (joint ownership) so I asked her to wait 10-15 min before calling my wife as I wanted to explain her the situation. Well, immediately after the phone call she phoned my wife, I could not even get through, she was faster than me with speed dial! Will I ever be a customer of RBC insurance? NEVER!

The worst experience I have ever had dealing with a service provider of any sort. Cheaper rates, but you get what you pay for. They need to hire qualified people, assuming most calls are liaising through an overseas call center. It took 3 times before they got my name corrected on my policy - language barrier a probability on their end - policy had to be reissued each time. Then when I canceled I was sent a letter claiming I had outstanding balances and threatened to send to collections; the person I dealt with to cancel told me they would charge my credit card same as I had been doing for 3 years. I received no notice for payment, no communication, until a threatening letter. Top all this off with the ridiculous phone wait times. Be prepared to wait 1-2 hours or longer, even if the estimate tells you 15 minutes. Just awful, many options out there for insurance coverage, this outsourced excuse for a company is not one of them. Thankfully I didn't have to put in a claim.
