Do not use RBC insurance

1 out of 5 stars
After 1 1/2 hours the guy came back on and told me I moved too many times in the last 5 years. He said it looked like I was flipping houses and RBC does not support that. I separated and bought a house. I moved to my home town and rented while I built a house. I am not longer working so I moved into an existing less expensive house. I was a customer for over 15years. Also a comment was made because I had a secure line of credit instead of mortgage. Really at my age ... so I have a small amount left and that plays against me!!!
I switched to RBC after discovering that their rate was a couple of hundred dollars less than my previous insurance company. After their home inspection they required a plumber's assessment because the water pipe attached to the heater had 'corrosion'. We then had a plumber come to assess the pipe and he noted that it was only calcium build up from a previous old water drip. We provided RBC with the plumber's report and they told us that it wasn't acceptable, we were required a plumber's report for now, the entire house. I asked them that this was not what was asked on in the initial inspection report, yet the call taker, who had no experience in plumbing or house assessments, was adamant that in order to continue insurance with them they required this report. Despite their own inspector not asking for this.
When asked to speak to a supervisor, I was initially denied and eventually the call was disconnected, of course I had to call them back because after waiting they didn't return my call. After experiencing their poor customer service again, I chose to return back to my previous insurance company and had told RBC to cancel my policy with them and I also told them that once our mortgage was up, we will also be switching banks. At this point they said that they suddenly said that the plumbers report was waived...... At this point after the hassle we had gone through, we decided to return to a real insurance company, not a bank.
RBC is terrible, they got agents pretend to be friendly but all they do is up sale the heck out of you. I had a gut feeling that they cheat and lie to get your pay them first and does't really cover anything. Later on it proves me right, I had a sewage backup and they denied the coverage with all kinds of excuses. And when I decided to cancel my vehicle insurance with them they immediately jacked up my current home insurance by 20% to deter you from leaving them.
I just had a recent claim from RBC because of the water damage coming from my roof, The emergency people from Strone did a pretty good job cleaning the damage but never got a containment temporary fix, but the Adjuster who handles my claim was so horrible service, first of all it her at least 2 weeks that the damage was not covered due to my roof has deteriorated, mind you my roof is only 14 years, no temporary fix has been done during the wait time. Secondly I took a second opinion from another roofer and they saw 3 missing shingles, I sent her the photos just to confirm if that is enough to be covered by the insurance, sent her (Jafri N.) several emails and left her several voicemail and never got a reply back, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS SO HORRIBLE, ITS TIME TO SHOP AROUND WITH ANOTHER INSURANCE PROVIDER
They wouldn't insure us due to the garage having heat. They where alarmed when i said we weren't only going to store cars in the garage. So if you use a garage for anything, i mean anything other than storing a car, don't even bother asking them, waste of an hour of my life i won't ever get back.
I was talking to RBC insurnace for a home quote. The representative was very nice however I must say this is strike two for RBC insurance. My first encounter with RBC insurance was when I moved to Calgary and called about tenant insurance. I called the day after I moved into my condo and was told because I had moved in, they could not offer tenant insurance. Forward to now when I purchased my home, I called for a quote and was told because I am building a garage on my property, they could not offer me insurance. Any structure on your property being built requiring a permit will make it so you can not obtain insurnace from RBC. If it's this hard to obtain insurance through RBC I can only imagine how difficult it is to obtain a claim through RBC. Stay very far away from RBC.
Worst Service Ever, Avoid RBC Insurance. For emergent communications, they chose to send registered letter, instead of calling or emailing which is the only way we can receive during stay outside Canada. It caused huge trouble for us. Ridiculous company that will never survive in competition.
My home and auto insurance will be up for renewal in June so I decided to get a head start and get some quotes. I called several companies and was treated with complete professionalism and respect until I contacted RBC. From the beginning I was treated like a criminal who was trying to sneak something passed them. The woman, with a foreign accent and very hard to understand ,was rude and I felt like I was being interrogated for committing some crime. Finally, when I had enough, I just told her to forget about it and hung up. This was my first and last time dealing with RBC insurance.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
I recently made a change to my credit card and forgot to inform RBC about it. My fault, no doubt. I received a registered letter later stating that I failed to make my last 2 payments and that they would be cancelling my policy. I ultimately made the payment but missed the deadline by ONE day due to circumstances out of my control. Again, not their fault but they refused to budge. Payment had to be in their hands on the Friday at noon, but they only received it Monday at 10am and they cancelled the policy and would not re-insure me. I spoke to 3 different managers and each of them sounded like broken records, saying it was out of their hands. This complete lack of flexibility toward a long-standing paying client is despicable and demonstrates loud and clear that we are just numbers to them. Will definitely be moving ALL assets out of Royal Bank

I have insured my home with RBC for many years, no claims. I have always told them of any changes. My hobby is leather work, I make my own dog collars and leads and harness for my horses also do my own repairs on leather items. I told them when I got a leather stitching sewing machine value about $ 4000.00 which was my Christmas present to me. Buying my own machine and sides of leather is way less expensive than getting my harness built elsewhere, it made sense. A year and a half later I thought about making leather items for sale as a small business and called RBC to enquire if this would change my insurance. I was NOT running a business, I was just asking. They cancelled my home policy! They said if I decided not to start a business or if I found some where off the property to run one from they would reinstate my policy. Remember I did not have a business I was just asking. I gave up on that idea and called them and enquired about reinstating my policy. They refused saying because the value of my HOBBY (machine plus leather and tools) about $10000.00 was so high they could not offer me insurance any more as if something did happen they would not pay out for this. Funny they were Quite happy to take my money knowing about my hobby before this. Be warned if you have a hobby RBC will take your money but if something happens it will be used as an excuse not to pay you. Their words and also remember all I did was be honest and enquire about a business. I did not and do not have one.
