They were a little hard to get ahold of and they took their time getting back to you.(it took 3 days by which time we had already decided we were going to change companies)But the people were nice, the service was just ok and the value was fair I guess.
I have been a client of Portage Mutual for almost 10 years and I would recommend this insurance company to anyone looking for an excellent insurance company. I had a recent claim with the ice storm and the same day that I called I had an agent who took care of my claim and phoned me the same day on a Friday late afternoon as that was when I reported the flood in my basement. Cody, an EXCEPTIONAL agent, guided me through the whole process, he had damage control taken care of by a very competent damage control company and also did an incredible job of making sure my home was safe and free from mould and mildew. I could go on and on about this company as an excellent insurance company. Again if you are looking for an insurance company that is there for you in the good and bad times, THIS IS THE INSURANCE COMPANY!
Had a house fire in September. FINALLY
4-5 months later they give money for the claim. And now they want a good portion back!!! The adjuster was impossible to get a hold of either by phone or email. Together a horrible experience and not recommended to anyone!!!
Neighbors had 100% damage claims on their roofs. Adjuster called 20 min out and wanted to look at the house, said she can’t wait for me as she was busy. Climbed up took some pics left a paper saying next to zero damage that the repairs would be less than the deductible and my shingles were old.
I called in irate and told them to add up my premiums for the last 6 years and mail them back to me. They changed over the phone to 50% coverage on the roof, facia, and chimney. Simply over the phone re-looking at the pictures
I cancelled my insurance at the beginning of March and here we are at the beginning of April and they're still taking money from my account. Not only are they taking money out that they shouldn't, but they put it through my account again 2 days later. 2 NSFs and I'm out 90 because they didn't cancel it. My original cost was 16 and some change the new payments they're putting through are 32 and change. If you cancel you might as well close your bank because they will keep pulling from your account. I don't even live at that address anymore and explained that when I cancelled it LAST MONTH!
I had a hot tub claim, a small fire in the v spa pack. The claims service was great, the friendly adjuster helped make the claim process go smoothly. I've been with them for 17 years now and premiums have also been quite stable.
I called to resolve an issue with our address, portage had it wrong. The postal code and house number were correct, the rest was wrong. It was correct at our broker. So the woman that answered said “who are you waiting for” this was her greeting. I said “I just called” she replied “oh. This is portage insurance, what do you want” I explained and she said “contact your broker “ well I had 3 times and it’s still wrong on your end. It’s correct at the broker. I got nowhere, so portage insurance has someone answering the phone that has NO pleasantries, just short and rude. On the statement, it listed portage phone number and not the broker. Why have a number listed when you get nowhere when calling, just rudeness. I’m a customer and expect a bit more in companies I pay money to. On the positive side, I understood every word she said, obviously English was her first language.
We switched to this insurance company based on a 'better quote' through a broker. After a year and a half of going back and forth between Portage and the broker, and receiving ever-increasing premiums in the mail over the year and a half, we have come to the conclusion that Portage is a poorly run insurance company. Do not trust Portage la Prairie Mutual Insurance Company.
We have gone back to our original insurance provider, and are very happy.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
They increased my deductible without informing me. This insurance company was recommended by MIG and apparently is the best one that suits my needs as a new home buyer. I guess they take advantage wherever they can. More than likely I will be switching to a different insurance company.
