What is Garden and Tree Insurance? Your garden and associated trees are typically included in a home insurance policy, to some extent.
Should a tree fall on your house due to a winter storm or strong wind, for example, the damage is generally covered by your home insurance policy. It is important to know, however, that a typical home insurance policy covers living trees only, and not the dead ones, which are your responsibility to have removed in a timely manner.
Some policies may cover not only damages to the home by fallen trees, but also some of the cost of the repair of landscaping. According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, “Most home policies will allow you to apply up to 5 per cent of the amount of insurance on your dwelling to repair damage to trees and landscaping”.
