Not a good company

1.5 out of 5 stars

I was ran over in a crosswalk by a guy who uses intact insurance. I also am insured by them. I was hurt really badly, driver admitted hitting me in crosswalk he was charged under motor vehicle act, tried in court and convicted. After accident my wife suggested getting legal counsel as she felt I would get run around.

Lawyer started claim on my behalf. Had conference with adjuster told I would be given section b benefits for medical/ lost wages. Great atleast things would get taken care of. Boy was I wrong. First thing I get sent to a physio company, I was promised by intact they would pay. Here I am in physio with a head full of pain killers been there 12 sessions. Next thing I know I'm being told my physio wasn't being paid I had to cover cost. I couldn't work had a 4 year old at home and only wife's income which was part time as she was in college. I have lawyer call and get told by intact just to pay as the paperwork was being processed. They stated I would be renibursed but I couldn't afford to pay as them nasty little things called bills wait for no man. I had to quit as 175 per season x 12= 2100 dollars. Didn't intact use this against me saying I hadn't done enough to mitigate my injuries? You bet they did

Now I'm promised section b benefits of 80 present of my wages. After weeks of nothing I get told before section b begins I have to use my employment insurance illness benefits and once they lapse I'm covered. I found this weird the government had to pay out for a injury they were liable for. So the Sick benefits run out and still no section b coverage. Eleven months later and bills piling up I get a check Christmas Eve.

Section B payments were 140 per week or 560 per month no where near 80 percent of my wages.(welfare recipients made more per month) Then one month check is on time next it's late. At times it would be two months before I got a check other times it wouldn't come due to adjuster vacation or they forgot. Hard to live and pay bills when you never know if a check it coming.

Wife and I go to renew insurance as we also use intact. Premiums tripled so we inquire. States I have two claims one for a minor accident I aknowledge and another for a claim the same date I was run over. They used my policy to pay me section b even though I was walking across a street when hit. Hell of a time to correct this and is still on my record!

5 years later still no compensation heading to court as I'm not believed even though plenty of documented proof of injury and they never sent me to a dr to despite my claim. Been harassed by there private investigators constant at home and at work. They even stalked my wife's work. Never have I seen such a deplorable company. I laugh at the tv ads. They are not out to help just save money and gouge everyone in process. If you ever have a claim hire a lawyer expect to be harassed neglected and called a liar

They will screw you any way they can and can get away with it. Your truly a David vs Goliath.

As an 19yr old female under my parents name, i was paying a whoping 272 a month. For the lowest everything.... so pretty much just having it to be legal. After months, i just got to thinking how rediculous that amount really is. I even completed my G and notified them, and they didnt drop my rate even though i was then a better qualified driver. I called and asked why itdidnt drop in price. Customerservice couldnt give me a straight answer, or one that made sense at that. After three times of her trying to justify why it didnt drop in price i said enough. Hung up. Started searching around. I saw no potential in ever paying less in price from intact insurance. Plus, customer service ... was rude. Needless to say, i switched. I now pay 188. Thats right 84 dollars cheaper a month. Enough said. A 50min phone call to another insurer (girl who set me up was polite and didn’t act like you waste her time) …made me feel like I won the lottery. Switch today.

Awful Company

Every partial payment notice comes with a different due date. In one, they tell me my next payment will be January 24th...then send a 'reminder' notice that my upcoming payment is due January 2nd. Awful customer service... terrible options to change anything. They are not looking out for the customer... but only for their own bottom line. Do yourself a favor and shop around for cheaper rates...because I GUARANTEE you INTACT INSURANCE will slowly creep their rates up without any notice or explanation.

They are pretty quick to let you know if you are a day late with a payment... and NEVER will send you a Thank You if you make a payment early. Give your money to a company that will care about you and your situation. I hear the Co-Operators is very customer service oriented. Actually, ANY other company would be a better choice. I am done with this insurance company when my plan ends... they will also lose any business from my children who will be driving in the next two years. I would give you a zero star rating if I could. Good riddance INTACT!

Over charged for awhile......

This is my first review Ive ever written, that's how bad my experience is with Intact. I cancelled my second car's policy few months back, yet every month they kept charging me $979 for two vehicles, a Kia and an Audi, the first payment after the cancellation I had made bounced, because I figured it would be around half that stated amount ( I was always left in the dark as well about costs etc.,) So I received an letter after that one payment bounced stating I owed them a thousand something if I wanted to continue, basically the one months bill plus extra costs for the NSF payment. My one car is a new vehicle with financing, so I need the insurance coverage, my idiot broker told me to pay it and once it's paid he would resolve the issue and Id get refunded the difference. Well, I never heard back from either company, 3 weeks later they decided to take another $979 out of my account, then a week later they took $705 out. My payments were always due on the 29th of the month, these payments occurred back to back before that date, messing up my whole finances, it's quite a bit of money! So I flipped out on my broker, who told me that the $705 was for the Kia alone, I cancelled my policy right away before the following month and complained to the ombudsman emailed them called them and emailed them again, I havent heard anything back from anyone and its been over 2 weeks now, As it stands, if they were in fact charging me just over $700 for one car (which I have the same car insured for $330 now with a different company) then that would mean they were charging me $250ish for the 2008 Audi, if thats the case (sounds ridiculous by the way) then they owe me $250 for 3 months, plus my current month, $705, so over $1400, I have a feeling I will never see that money again....

Avoid like the plague!!

I've been with Intact since I was 19 (so a few years) and everything is good, as long as you pay them their money each month. This past July I was in my first accident, and when I first called to make the claim, the first person I spoke to sounded very nice. Unfortunately I had to end that call and when I called back, a different adjuster answered. I already worked with her on a hail damage and she was very rude. Not only was the adjuster incompetent, I did not receive ANY information about what was happening with my vehicle. TWO MONTHS later, and I received a call from the local adjuster company stating my car was being written off and I should expect a call from my insurance adjuster the next business day. A month and a half later... I received a call from my rental car company stating that as of YESTERDAY my rental car was no longer being paid for by my insurance. I lost it. I called my adjuster every 5 minutes and left 3 voicemails as she wasn't answering, I sent 3 e-mails to her, only to find out she wasn't my adjuster anymore, that it was now handed off to a "total loss adjuster." Once I sent in a complaint I was finally able to speak with her supervisor and within 2 days my claim was FINALLY settled by the end of October. My accident was in July.

Before my accident, I had a "hail-damage" claim as well. That was a mess as well. First off, it didn't take until AFTER my accident was settled before she sent me a settlement claim for the hail. The cheque I was sent BOUNCED, and I had to wait patiently for the new cheque to come. I wasn't able to pay my rent, pay for food or even pay my car payments for my new car! My only saving grace was when I received a cheque from the car dealership I purchased my new vehicle from. My bank wouldn't unfreeze my account in time (I had to go THREE times for them to unfreeze my account, and all they had to do was uncheck a box in their computer). Needless to say my insurance payment didn't go through for the month, and i received a letter stating it would come out the 19th of November. When the 19th came around, my payment didn't come out. I waited for the next business day (Monday) to see if it would come out and it did not. I called my broker (Sharp Insurance, do not use as well) and I was on hold for about 11 minutes before I could speak with anyone. During the conversation I was put on hold for about 5 minutes at a time, 3 times. Turns out the reason my payment didn't go through was because I NEVER called to confirm. It was on the notice they sent me. Myself and my mom both read the notice front to back 3 times trying to find where it said I had to call them. Last January, my payment was a few dollars short, so it didn't go through. Someone phoned me within a few days and spoke to me about my payment and such. When I mentioned that to my broker, he rudely explained that it isn't up to Sharp or Intact to follow up. When I explained I worked for property management, and when people don't pay their rent, it is our job to follow up. When you want your money, you phone. Anyways, I ended up hanging up on the guy after he told me to make an online payment, which I did. Yesterday, I received through registered mail that they were cancelling my policy due to non-payment. This was about 5:30 in the evening and when I phoned my broker (who claims 24 customer service) do you think I was able to get through? No. Now today, I had to take an unpaid day off just to deal with this mess.

Intact-class action interest?

by Action against incometence on Nov 25, 2015

Phenomenal. I live in Alberta and have had the same terrible experience with the Intact adjuster. She was working from another province, put the onus entirely on me to collect police and other documents (the RCMP said "Your insurance well knows that they are the ones who should be gathering this information"), told me (5 months after the accident) that the claim was delayed because I had failed to get the MV accident report to her (it was in Intact's posession within 48 hrs of the accident). Appealed to her supervisor. Sending emails multiple times over multiple weeks just to get a single reply.
It is clear that many of us here have experienced negligence and breach of contract with Intact - with regard to appropriate service provision.
Is anybody interestested in getting together so that we can get legal counsel and examine the idea of launching a class-action suit against Intact on this basis?
If so, please say so here, and I will set up an email and meeting.

Dont waste your time on Intact

Intact is the WORST insurance company I have EVER had the displeasure of dealing with. The customer service is horrible, it takes forever to get a reply via email and/or phone. I had bought a new car and switched over to Intact because it was cheaper, I got my monthly statement in the mail soon after I had agreed to switch and it was $60 MORE then they quoted me, and then. Guess what, not even a week later I get another $50 charge added to my statement monthly. I have NEVER even had a ticket, never filed a claim with any company they had ZERO reason to jump my insurance like that with NO notice what-so-ever. (theirs an example of the horrendous customer service) So of course by this point I am fed up, I cancel my insurance police with them and after not being with them for even 2 whole weeks, I get a $150 charge for canceling, AND I had to pay for the whole month. This company is HORRRRRRIBLE. Save yourself the headache and go with someone else.

Worst company ever.

If you call they might assign you to someone on vacation so you need to keep prompting tthem to move forward with your claim. The call center people were great but my adjuster was just rude.

Someone hit me and I can't even afford a down payment for another car.

Absolutely terrible!! Do not go with intact! I called in to cancel my insurance but first asked if I would have to pay and how much would it be.. my broker told me if would be about 150-200$ the next thing you know I get a 1700$ bill in the mail!!! Absolutely disgusting! They treat you "ok" until you no longer need services with them and then they totally dig you into the dirt! Go with state farm!! Do not go with intact!!

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Cancellation without Notice

For many years I insured two antique automobiles with Intact. In 2008 they requested appraisals, which were done. The cars remained in storage without being driven since that time. A few days ago I was looking for the current pink cards/policy and was unable to find them. I phoned their agent, Brokerlink, in Edmonton to request a replacement. I was first advised that the policy had lapsed because I had not paid the invoice. I indicated that I had not received the invoice nor any indication of overdue payment. I was then advised that Intact had cancelled the policy because I had not gotten a new appraisal after 5 years. I was never advised that I had to have another appraisal done after 5 years. In spite of having my address, phone number, and email address neither Intact or Brokerlink saw fit to advise me in advance that my policy would not be renewed, and consequently I was left without insurance. Their behavior was totally and absolutely UNPROFESSIONAL. I am appalled that they would treat a long term customer who never had a claim in this fashion.
