Do not get this insurance.

Do not get this insurance! In the recent hailstorm that hit Calgary this June 2020, I was if not first one from the first people that started the claim, the rain was still falling, all the neighbors couldn't believe what was going on and I did my claim right away. Well, today July 7th my car is just going to start getting fix, all my neighbors cars are fixed or claims settled. We have the worst adjuster we had ever dealt with. She never called us, we had to do the entire process by ourselves, she is useless, to the full extent of the word!!! We had to follow up with the entire process, she never called weeks pass and we never hear from her. Every time I had to call the tow company, to get a rental, to tow it to the other repair facility, and so for. Having this adjuster and nothing is the same! In July 2nd we called the call-center to ask about what was going to happen to our rental (because the adjuster didn't do her job at all and nothing was getting done! We did all the calls and followed up, thanks to us the car is getting fix, not the useless adjuster) that 10,000 claims were made is not an excuse, other insurers did by far a better job than this 3 people together. Worst customer service ever. SO in the call center, the lady said "Don't worry honey, I have been doing this for 25 years, I will extend your rental 1 more week. Then the next day at about 4 pm someone called and left a message saying that our rental has to turn back, it was Friday 4 pm, after listening to this we tried to call back but all adjusters were gone. So Monday we called and spoke to our adjuster she was a useless sound like a broken record with no listening skills at all. So we asked to talk to the Manager, he listened and understood that they made a mistake but didn't want to take responsibility for it, what kind of manager do that. Zero management skills at all. So we did return the rental today Monday and had to pay for 2 days out of our pockets for a CALL CENTER REPRESENTATIVE MISTAKE and a useless adjuster and a manager that all she knows to say is "yes, they need some coaching" of course they do and in the meantime, it is costing me money and finally a rude, unprofessional, manager with zero skills! I Can't wait to switch insurance. Get a real insurance company, not this joke.

Stay Away at All Costs

We have been a Belair client for years and have never been in an accident. Unfortunately, about 6 weeks ago, we got into our first accident and have had the displeasure of having to go through the Belair claims process. The initial intake process was smooth and relatively painless and the customer service was friendly. That is when things took a terrible turn. After a week and a half, it was determined that the vehicle was a “total loss” meaning it was being written-off and it was determined (wrongfully) by our adjuster that we were “at-fault”, despite the police report stating the opposite (there was an officer on-scene who happened to witness the accident). This is when the nightmare began. First, they rushed to send us an email settlement offer (which we did not receive as it ended up in the junk folder) and terminated our rental vehicle coverage on the same day the settlement was “presented” without notifying us. We learned that the rental car coverage had been terminated 3 days afterwards, only because we called to follow-up on the status of our claim. It was on this call that we were advised that a settlement offer had been made, and had to search through our junk mail to find it. After reviewing the offer it took three emails and three phone calls to our adjuster to FINALLY get a call back on the issue of ‘fault’. Both the police that attended on the scene and at the collision reporting centre agreed that it was the other driver’s fault. However, Belair, when prompted for an explanation, simply said the other driver’s statement was the reason for their determination. Rather than choosing to follow the police report and represent our best interests as their client, they decided to take the other insurance company’s position. We have escalated this to a ‘manager’ and were supposed to get a call back in 24 to 48 hours. We are going on three days now and have yet to receive a call back on this point. With respect to the settlement, the offer was woefully below ‘fair market value’. We have been back and forth over twenty emails now, providing them with comparables for sale in addition to values calculated through both Kelley Blue Book and Canadian Black Book's total loss evaluation tool and have only managed to get them to go from about $2,600 to $3,600 (all comparables are in the $4800-5800 range). We are only asking for $4,600, but they are deciding to dig in their heels over less than $1,000. Finally, I asked them to provide their valuation methodology and comparables. They provided me with a list of 5 "comparables" all of which have between 55,000-65,000 kms more than my vehicle (not to mention one of the vehicles has a manual transmission where ours was an automatic). The moral of this story is that if you are looking for an insurance company that, in the rare instance of an accident which is an understandably very stressful time, will support you and help alleviate some of the stress, do NOT consider Belair as an option. They will add ten times more stress than the initial incident itself and drag out the process and do whatever it takes to pay out as little as possible, hoping that you just give up and accept their low-ball offer out of frustration. Save yourself the stress and aggravation and run as far away from this company as possible. The online reviews do not lie. You are better off paying higher premiums and actually having an insurance company that looks after you and offers superior customer service and a proper payout in the unlikely event of an accident.

Worst Experience of my life

Great at accepting premiums poor service when you need them. I had minor cosmetic damage and a punctured tire after we got hit while stopped at a red light and were found at 0 fault. Then the claims process started and Belair has used every underhanded trick in the book to try and settle with us for a low ball offer even though I believe the other driver's insurance company will make them whole at the end of the day. They have bullied my girlfriend, threatened to salvage her car before we agreed to a settlement, consistently changed the price they are offering, refuse to complete a full estimate of the damage, bait and switch the value of the offers. When calculating the price they use comparable vehicles that are 6 months old. After I ran CARFAX reports on the vehicles I found a bunch had previous accidents, were used as rentals and commercial vehicles and even had smaller engines and manual transmissions, along with almost double the kilometers driven. Basically, the cheapest vehicle you could find and still call it almost a comparable car. Luckily, we had just bought a second vehicle and are able to get by on one car. I can see how someone without that option can be highly pressured and pushed into taken a minimal settlement as this has dragged on for almost 6 weeks now and we had to return the rental that was provided a few days after the accident. Stay away from the Belair as one day you may need them and they will not be there.

If you have a good driving record in AB, you should pay around $110/month (women - $105/month and men - $113/month). Do you overpay? Get an Alberta car insurance quote to start saving.

Worst ever insurance!

When my windshield cracked due to a truck kicking up rocks, I had to run around to get my windshield replaced by their people instead able to do it at the closest windshield repair service. And on top of it, I had to pay $300. Why have insurance? When I went with another company when my insurance expired, Belairdirect still wanted me to pay for their insurance, saying that it is still in force! Obviously, if I did not pay for the renewal, I am NOT insured by them, and therefore I am not obligated to pay them! I would never deal with them again or can recommend them to anybody!

Worst insurance ever

Someone hit my brother's car, Belairdirect wanted him to fix at their recommended body shop. The body shop has taken almost 5 months to fix it. Still not done yet. First, the insurance said they will cover the car rental whatever time that body shop take to repair if my brother agrees to fix the car there, now they take their words back and want my brother to pay for the car rental because the $limit ran out.

Worst Service and Prices

Belair doubled my cost and expects me to pay $7500 PER YEAR? Belair sends an email stating "we're excited to renew your policy!" Yeah, of course, they are, because they're trying to make almost 10 GRAND off of me for a year's worth of car insurance? Makes me sick to my stomach. Also, after a small fender bender last winter they treated me like an absolute GARBAGE because I refused to go to one of their "trusted mechanics". They straight up harassed me about it over and over. Pro tip: their "trusted mechanic" is a lot where they make you leave your car and then take it to a local shop who will find the cheapest parts. DON'T BE SCAMMED.

Did you know that on average Ontario drivers with good driving records pay $1,805/year in auto insurance? Is your insurance rate higher? Get a free car insurance quote and start saving today.

Very poor service

I recently got into a little accident in a parking lot. My car has now been in the shop for 10 days without any work being done - just sitting there. This is because Belairdirect hasn’t been able to approve the quote from the body shop. Unfortunately, I have been left without a car and have no choice but to take a cab to work. I have called on numerous occasions and still haven’t gotten any response or call back from these guys. My family and I are struggling to get around. I would not recommend Belair.

BELAIR WORST EXPERIENCE

by BRENDA on Aug 4, 2018
1 out of 5 stars

Scraped a wall with my husband's truck three months ago, made our first claim ever with BelairDirect. Brought the vehicle to the preferred shop for BelairDirect to be repaired. We were advised by the preferred shop that even though one tire was damaged as a result of the accident, we should replace all four due to possible safety and mechanical issues due to uneven tire wear. We were skeptical, contacted the dealership, where we purchased the vehicle, they voiced the same safety concern. Opted to replace the other three tires at a cost of over $1000.00 on top of the $500 deductible we had already paid. Three months later BelairDirect Insurance is still refusing to compensate us for anything for these tires. We would have accepted a lower amount due to some wear and tear on the existing tires (approx. 20000 km on the old tires) as a resolution, however, they are refusing this as well. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BELAIRDIRECT INSURANCE TO ANYONE

do not use Belairdirect

On a Saturday of May of this year, my vehicle was hit by someone who ran a stop sign. I immediately called to report the issue but because it was outside of regular hours, I was unable to connect with anyone until Monday morning. When I did finally speak to a representative, they quickly made arrangements to get me a rental car and referred me to their preferred auto body shop. Over the last two months, I have been driving a rental car. My car has not yet been returned to me and is still in pieces at the body shop. I am extremely disappointed with both the service I have received from Belairdirect and the claims advisor assigned to my claim and Beliardirect's preferred auto body shop, Kingston limestone auto body. When I took my car in, I was told it would take 15 days to repair once the quote was approved. When I got the quote, I had questions, so I reached out to my claims advisor. I provided multiple forms of contact information and expressed that I did not have access to my personal phone during regular office hours requesting I be contacted at work or by email. My claims advisor refused to contact me any other way than with my personal number and called specifically when I advised them I would be unable to answer. My emails were replied to with phone messages where I was given incorrect information on a number of occasions. I spent countless hours speaking to other claims representatives trying to connect with my claims advisor and having to explain each time what was going on to someone new who had little understanding of the situation. Even the auto body shop commented that the hurdles that were being put up were ridiculous with Belairdirect declining to complete repairs directly related to the accident that was required to put my car safely back on the road. After a month of back and forth, the auto body shop started the work. Again I was told it would be 15 days until it was completed. For the last two weeks, I’ve been told my car would be ready next week. I can provide countless other examples of poor customer service throughout this experience, suffice to say I have zero positive feedback to provide about Belairdirect or Limestone auto body. If you are looking for insurance, I would highly recommend looking elsewhere.

Cancel Policies

I want to personally thank Belairdirect policyholders that took the time and effort to let Canadians know about how terrible the insurance company staff treats their customers. I personally have an auto insurance claim that is waiting for their approval. Since submitting my claim information, I have been lied to and have received rude behaviour. I am cancelling all my policies later this year including boat, home, quad, and 3 autos. And to make matters worse, the repair shop that is supposed to honour a lifetime Rely Network warranty on its historic repair is trying to avoid fixing poor repair work. I would avoid Carstar and Belairdirect. Just a reminder that it's the staff of the company that represents the name of the business. So when you are lied to and/or treated poorly, then why continue to pay out your hard-earned money to people that can't be trusted. Canadians work hard enough for their money, why should we continue to lose? I encourage to take your business with a 5-star rating, not a 1 star.
