Dropped us for small claim, without notice

Had the same provider for many years, no claims in over 30 years. They quit covering our area. Agent covered us with Aviva… nightmare experience, a year in received notice they were cancelling our coverage (one-month notice).
I think they did us a favor, having read these reviews… I would hate to see what the experience would be if we needed support!!
Worst place to buy insurance. They want your money but when you need to make changes they will cancel your insurance without giving you options.
Canadians pay, on average, approximately $20 per month in tenants insurance. Do you rent or plan to rent a property and want to reduce insurance costs? We will help you get a cheap tenant insurance quote today.
One week to go until my policy renewal and I was informed that they would not be renewing my insurance. They said we had 3 claims in 6 years. The first claim was for water damage in basement due to a corroded copper pipe. The 2nd so called claim - we didn't realize it was considered a claim was when the same pipe sprung another leak. We had called the insurance company but when we found out what it was we called a plumber and paid for the repair ourselves. Apparently since they called someone out to look at it and spent all of $127 it is considered a claim. The 3rd claim occurred last October when a neighbour had a fire. The flames were fiercely coming out of a bedroom window and it melted our shed and some siding. We had no control over that. In my estimation WE had ONE claim - the first one. They initially told us that if we provided proof that the siding was repaired and send a picture they would renew our policy. Liars! Didn't have the decency to even call during all of this. Just received an e-mail saying not renewing.
Avoid this company! I can't believe how unprofessional and greedy this company has been throughout. I had my condo insurance with RBC, then RBC contracted to this miserable and unorganized company, they increase condo insurance by 25% every year, so greedy people. I have found very affordable insurance with another company and have been trying to cancel my insurance with this greedy company for a month now but no one is answering the phone or returning my calls. If they keep doing this I have no choice but to sue them in court.
Aviva gave me 3 weeks to find a new insurance company and would not tell me why, when I asked they said that they do not have to inform customers why they are cancelling their policies, I had said that I needed to know so that I could rectify the issue and they said that it does not matter if I fix the issue or not I will never be insured by them again. I ended up going through the bank to find out why, as they acted as the broker. Turns out that they did not like the fact that I had a 4 post car hoist in my 40'x40' shop, we are commercially zoned for small businesses with up to 4 employees, but I do not have a business it is to store my classic cars, and their response was that nobody has them in residential and it is a commercial thing. They sell them all over for residential for collectors to store their cars even non-collectors have these in cities where they can't park on the street. My insurance then Doubled from approx $900.00 to $1,800.00, not because I have a car hoist in my shop but because Aviva cancelled my policy and I am on some sort of BLACK LIST for 5 yrs from most other insurance companies
Within 4 years with this company I never filed a claim, however, the policy increased every year for no reasonable reason. The last one went almost 30% increase. So I decided to buy another policy with another insurer. Where I found the same coverage for half the money this terrible company was trying to steal from my pocket and immediately cancelled the policy with Aviva on the same day.
SURPRISE: One week later they sent me a letter pretending I pay $830 for something they call "balance outstanding for the time on risk"
What? My house never went uncovered by a policy, the day I bought the new policy I cancelled AVIVA.
Where the heck they saw the risk?
They are the risk for your wallet.
Do not recommend this company to insure a barbie house or a hot wheel car.
Very unprofessional and rude agents, very bad policy.
WOULD RATE THEM MINUS 5 if the system allows me.
Can have your contract cancelled if you did not realize that you skip a payment. You receive straight la letter of cancellation.
Very rude agents who write that you refuse to pay if you ask for additional information or ask to speak to someone else.
DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY FOR THIS SERVICE
I sold my house and they were very high on their quote for my new home so I cancelled and went with a different insurer for the new place. Aviva has continued to take payments from my bank account for the past 9 months without authorization. I keep calling my broker monthly and they keep inquiring about it. Aviva says they're behind on processing. FOR NINE MONTHS! They've taken $1000 from me without permission and counting. Goodness knows they wouldn't have granted ME 9 months grace on my payments during the pandemic...
We had two or three claims due to storms which is not in our control and they have now said they can no longer insure us as a result. This company is a joke and I would absolutely not recommend then to anyone.

We made a very small $2K claim for water damage. They subsequently dropped us without notice some time later. We then had a much larger water issue and were surprised to find we were uninsured as we were never notified. Our insurance broker ended up covering our claim due to the lack of notice and coverage.
To drop someone for a small water claim is very sensitive and to not notify us is very irresponsible. We’re lucky that we had worked with a good broker.
We found better rates and moved both home and auto to a new provider.
