Scammers

I called these guys and cancelled my home contents insurance and they didn't cancel it. Apparently typed into the computer that the call was for a quote on how much it would cost if I cancelled it which is false. Then they tried to say they cancelled it due to non-payment. (when they directly withdraw the money from my account monthly) and sent some 98.74 to collections without so much as a phone call. I called them to find out wtf is going on the rep was extremely disrespectful. So I asked for a supervisor to which he denied me a supervisor. Kept repeating that my home contents insurance was cancelled due to non-payment. My rates got jacked up. I'm changing insurance companies and I suggest no one trusts these scam artists.

Scammers. Not deserve a star!

I cancelled my auto and home insurance policy last month since I found a better price from another company. The home insurance was ridiculously high, over $3,000 a year; they said that was their best-combined offer, we had to use them because we were using their auto insurance and we were too busy moving, after we settled down, we looked around for different quotes and decided to cancel, they charged us about $350.00 each cancellation, which is more than $700.00, we never had to pay cancellation fee with previous companies. They warned us they will put to a collection agency if we don’t pay for it. We end up no choice to pay them the painful price. Lesson learned and I will never recommend this company to anyone.

Bad customer service

I was able to connect with Belairdirect easily.

But when I asked them to cancel my home insurance, they renewed it and charged $17 after that to cancel the policy.

Very bad service and they are saying they don't find any notes that I requested to cancel my home insurance.

Are you a condo unit tenant? Remember that neither your condominium corporations' policy nor your landlord's insurance policy protects you as a tenant (3rd part liability, contents, etc.). If you do not have your own insurance policy, get your condominium insurance quote today.

Couldn't Do Worse!

This company, Belair Direct, is a huge rip-off. Their rates are about 25% higher than other companies even with their so-called discount for home and auto insurance bundled together!

Worse, when I told them I didn't want to renew my residential policy after it elapsed they charged me more than $50.00 for an administrative fee to "cancel" a policy that had already run out. That was more than 10% of the cost of the policy. Now you'd think, well why bother cancelling it. Because if I didn't and they cancelled it from their side I would never be able to purchase home insurance from anyone else because other companies can't sell it to you if any other company has canceled your policy previously!!

And then I had to wait for almost an hour while the agent processed my non renewal on her computer that kept freezing! So add in an hour of my time and what I might have earned or done with it.

Don't be fooled by the people you talk to in customer service; they are actually pretty helpful and diligent, but the fees and policies of this corporate thief will fleece you.

I doubt you could find a worse experience with any other insurance agency.

And that's just trying to cancel a policy that had already expired a week earlier. I can't imagine how these weasels would behave if I'd actually had a claim!!!

Worst service ever.

I called for a claim in Feb 2016 because I had a few spots in the ceiling of my basement and an adjuster came to see in early March 2016. She told me that it was hard to see where the water was coming from and that there was no damage to my house. She did say that the water was probably due to the ice on the roof and that she was going to send a contractor to verify this. I received a call from a contractor in the end of August 2017 to verify the damages so I refused because it was tool late and I never put in a claim.
Now I get my insurance renewal and am hit with a $5000 deduction because it says in my file that I refused to repair a leaky roof.
I am presently shopping around for a new insurance company.

Asked about installing auxiliary heat, wanted to terminate my policy, they are foreigners, they did not see when we had the ice storm and I had no heat for five days and was thinking of installing a pellet stove. Thank you to the woman I had confidence in and the CEO that wanted to cancel my policy, by the way, I had a new furnace installed prior to this one year, he said "oh you do not have sufficient heat at home, oh hey did you ever hear of thermostat", I can adjust, thank you CEO of Belleair direct

Belair Direct Plays Dirty

I signed up for house insurance with Grey Power two years ago. My policy came up for renewal on July 15, 2015 and their prices were too high and they were beginning to charge a monthly percentage premium for those with monthly payment plans. I emailed my cancellation to Grey Power on July 11, 2015. They said they didn't get it and that they were now with Belair Direct Insurance. They told me to sign the page of my policy and mail it in. I did that and also sent a 2nd email, this time to Belair Direct yesterday. The response to my email said I had to send my entire policy back to them. But I'd only sent the page I needed to sign and threw out the rest of the paperwork yesterday and it was garbage pick-up day so it was gone. I was beyond frustrated. There did not seem to be a way for me to cancel the policy and they were keeping me on the hook for this month's premium, even though I was paying for house insurance through my new provider. After breaking down in tears, one of the agents named John did get involved and put extra work into getting my policy cancelled. So thank you John. But I would absolutely not recommend Belair Direct Insurance or Intact Insurance their parent company. If you have any problems with them and are a Canadian, I also recommend that you contact General Insurance OmbudService at https://www.giocanada.org/ for assistance. I found out about them this afternoon after contacting my provincial ombudsman for assistance. In the end I didn't need them because John helped.

Bad attitude

We had Belair home insurance for a couple of years. Then I noticed that from one month to another the automatic monthly withdrawal went up by more than $50.
I contacted them to find out why, and they told me that it was the renewal of the policy, and that they had sent all the paperwork advising me of the terms and conditions well in advance. At this point the tone is very severe.
When I pointed out that no such document had arrived to me, she ask me whether I was sure and not have missed it, with a tone insinuating that I was lying and that she knew it. After repeating several times that I had not seen such papers, that I check my mail religiously, and that I had never agreed to such increase, she agrees to check when/where the paperwork was sent. Comes back after a couple of minutes and states triumphantly how the paperwork was sent about 6 weeks prior, I say I have not seen such thing. Then she reads out the address, and I pointed out that I did not live at that address. I said that it did not matter anyways, I wanted to cancel this policy that I had never agreed to in first place, due to how I had been treated.
She became obviously angry and said that I still faced a more than $300 cancellation fee. I told her that it was impossible to have me bound to something I never accepted, that they had made the mistake. She insisted, and tired of being bullied on the phone for so long, I told her that I did not care anymore, I was cancelling it, fee or no fee, and that if there was a fee I would easily recuperate it in a few months with the lower offer from the competitor.

There were no more withdrawals, and I never got the fee in the end.

I have friends that say they are very happy with them. I was happy till this incident (but really, you're always happy while you are paying them and have no claims/issues). They have lost me as a customer forevermore, every year when I shop around I avoid them, because if they disputed something so silly as sending something to the wrong address, how will they be if I have a claim?. I got a quote from Intact and after finding out that they are related to Belair I automatically discarded it (it was not great anyways).

Belair all about money

by Mama Bear on May 20, 2014
1 out of 5 stars

I had been with Belair for over 20 years. My daughter bought her first house, and it is a fixer upper. Explained in detail to Belair about the fixing up and schedule, and they insured the home. Two months after moving in, my daughter received a call stating she was being cancelled in 48 hours. Someone had driven by and seen a wood burning stove chimney and a bad roof. The stove had been removed the day she moved in as the insurance representative had been told, and the roofer was scheduled to start the following week. If the winter had been shorter, the roof would have been done. Belair refused to accept any of this, and my daughter ended up having to find a new insurance company within a day. Because of the roof, she had to get high risk insurance, which was LESS EXPENSIVE than Belair. I have since cancelled my Belair insurance, and would never recommend them to anyone. Hard to believe that high risk insurance is less expensive than a Belair rate for a family that had been a customer for so many decades. Do NOT choose Belair. They will not be there when you need them.
