Life Ruining Company

Wow where to start.

I went via a broker. I was given Intact as a suitable option for my Sedan. I was told I was covered for every eventuality imaginable, (including first accident forgiveness) - So it sounded like a dream come true so i decided to move my other car, an SUV and my home insurance policy to them also.

This was in Feb 2016. In May 2016, when i had an "at fault accident" (Which, wasn't even my fault, I was directed by construction workers who were blocking the entrance to my lane, and following their hand signals, i slightly scraped the side of my car on an invisible concrete bollard which nobody could see either in mirrors or blind spots)

So, i called Intact to ask if i should claim or not, and they insisted i did. They seemed so caring at the time. They insisted i used their recommended body shop, they insisted they give me a top of the range courtesy car whilst they "repaired" mine. Their "body shop" insisted that i needed a new Passenger front car door (i clearly didn't, it was only a scratch - but i went with it) i trusted them again. The new car door apparently cost almost $5000 (yet, i can almost guarantee that any other body shop would have repaired it for not even a fraction of that cost, and there was no need to replace it)

Everything seemed to be fine and months and months later (December) I got a letter from my broker saying Intact had refused to renew my policy, as i had an "At Fault Accident within my first 4 years". At this stage, i queried the "First Accident Forgiveness " that I had thought i had, but they said i didn't qualify for it for not being insured with them for over 4 years!! I then asked why it was mentioned in the phone call to the broker, and they said I had to prove it. I said, well since you record all phone calls, i suggest you pull the call and listen... but they refused saying it was my fault because i didn't read the "small print" of my policy. I begged and begged them, but they simply said no.

I am now in a position where i will lose both of my cars as I cant afford a new company that my broker found, the payments to Insure the cars are now 3 times more than the payments FOR THE CARS. So, I am going to lose my cars, and in tern, my job, so potentially, i am going to lose my home.... all because they conned me into making a claim on a feature that i did not qualify for in the first place!!

Oh - and to add insult to injury, we took part in the driving Discount program and had devices installed into both cars, I qualified for a 16% discount, my other half 18% discount due to "good driving" - however, it was totally pointless, they refused to renew so YOU LOSE THE WHOLE LOT!!

I am disgusted with Intact and advise everyone to stay well clear of them. They are the cowboys of the industry and are ruining peoples lives. I hate to think how many people they have put into the situation i am in. Car less, Job Less, and soon to be homeless. All at Christmas time too! Thanks Intact. You must feel so proud of your despicable selves.

Worst expirance of my life

by Look69ing on Dec 9, 2016

Worst ever. Been dragging on for 4 months too much to explain about collecting. On a hit and run accident that wasn't my fault. And witnesses were there and caught the guy. He admitted to everything and was charged through court faster than I've been paid out. My truck isn't drivable. And haven't had wheels now for 110 days. Never return phone calls. Always changing adjusters. Etc etc. Save your money. Or pay a bit more for a different company. I'm not with intact but the at fault hit and run driver is with intact.

Wrote off new truck, a scratch

by Jake on Dec 5, 2016

I bought a new vehicle with 100 thousand kms on it. 2005 GMC jimmy, body and interior were flawless. My vehicle was broken into, so I put an insurance claim through since I was paying full coverage and only had the vehicle 2 months. There's was a broken door handle and scratches above the handle so I asked it to be fixed... I priced it out myself at $850 plus labour. So, here's how they dealt with me... 1. Said they will be by in the next 48 hours to pick it up out front my house. I work, they said they are unable to arrange a time, to just leave the keys in it unlocked on the road for 48 hours, where it was just broken into. 2. They pick it up after 2 days take it to Carstar, where it gets locked in a gated yard. They say they will contact me to get my belongings if they decide to write it off. They never called, I almost lost everything in my vehicle due to it. 3. They deemed my vehicle a total loss over a door. This means I can no longer fix it and out it on the road under any circumstance. The truck with 100k on the motor is now scrap. 4. THEN I call leave a note with my claim broker to call back about what I get back for my vehicle since I currently don't have one due to them. This was on a Wednesday; no call so try again Friday with another message... No call. They leave me with no knowledge of my payout, when I get it, no vehicle to get to work, or any way to get another vehicle because I must pay out my loan first which is waiting on the insurance company. 5. After all said and done they priced my buyout at $3000 less than I had paid 2 months prior while not checking the odometer to realise how low it is the left me owing almost $5000 with interest for a vehicle I was paying full insurance for an had been broken into and deemed "not my fault". This company screwed my life over for more than a year to come and put my job at jeopardy due to me not having a way to commute. To top it off I called and stated all this to them and they didn't even have an apology, they just said these are our policies and that their mechanic who wrote it off was a trained professional. Please save yourself the hassle and money.

Device Program not good

by bhupinder7 on Nov 25, 2016

I signed for the auto insurance policy with my broker, he seems a nice guy. He told me that you can install a device in your car for six month and you will receive some discount in your monthly premium. So, i enrolled in the program. After six months over, I called my broker that my six months are over, should I remove the device from my car ? He said, just wait for an email from Intact insurance about the instruction to return the device. I waited for two-three weeks, still not receive an email. Then, I called the company directly, they told me to wait for another 3 months which I find not very trustworthy company to their consumers. As they tell something different when you buy the policy and but their broker don't tell what would exactly happen after six month. When I called the company, they said their broker should have this information to tell clients to complete the program for 9 months instead of six months incase (not sure when this happen). Just making people fool. I would never recommend somebody to get insurance from this company. I'm just waiting to complete my policy to move another company.

Charged for nothing

by Petrovah on Sep 19, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

Living in Newfoundland Canada we now have taxed insurance. Intact Insurance was charging close to $3000 for full coverage for the year so I found a better deal at one of their competitors. I spoke with them on the phone letting them know I was cancelling and was told that I would have to sign something in order to cancel to which I replied "Okay, I'll make my way down there when I can." Nothing else was said. I have now received a "legal notice" in the mail saying I owe them $279 for non payment up until October 4th. They're charging me, and letting me know they're cancelling my policy, for not paying on a policy I've already told them I was cancelling.

Stay away from this company, unless you intend to never leave them, otherwise they'll find a way to charge every single penny they can.

cancellation

by Linda on Sep 15, 2016
1 out of 5 stars

I requested my broker to cancel my policy with Intact and he ignored me plus ignored 2 follow up questions on the request to cancel. He sat back and did nothing so the policy renewed and I was charged $126 when the broker finally cancelled after the dead line. I sent Intact e-mail proof that I requested the cancellation of my policy well in advance of the renewal date. Once again I was ignored and Intact withdrew the money from my bank account. This fee of $126 should have been charged to the broker. Beware seniors and young people, Intact will rip you off because they think we are too stupid or too old which makes us easy targets. The worst

Once you get your high quote, you get no service ! Just asking for more money, when you renew without any plausible reason. Oh and I forgot that fake regarding saving money with My Discount Program which actually ends up increasing the payment despite being a safe and a good driver .
Such a bunch of robbers!
I have no idea why Ontario still depend on private insurance !!!!

DO NOT USE THEM!

by PissedAtIntactInYYC on Sep 2, 2016

Our Son (17 at the time) had a collision with a person who turned left in front of him. So in most if not all provinces in Canada, that person who turns left is an automatic at fault, especially so when our son's light was proven to be green!
The short of it, we had to fight a ticket by a CPS officer who profiled our son (he had a loud SRT-4), and just had that withdrawn in Alberta court.

Now Intact wants the courts documents for proof (makes sense to me) ,but they want to assign 50/50 blame vs the person who turned left in front him being 100% at fault!

They don't listen, nor do they return calls emails go unanswered and unless you get very verbal and nasty with them (As I have now been doing) they will only respond to that type of action. Really quite sad how they seem to work outside of what the law says is or isn't.

Intact also increased our sons insurance 52% due to this accident EVEN with the charge being withdrawn, even with the evidence that proves beyond any doubt that our son was in the right, and they say it's charged but not convicted! The rate will drop only by 25% when they receive the documents from the courts.

Now many insurance companies allow your annual premium to be split up over the 12-month period, as does Intact, but they charge our son $110.00 annually for late payments that they agree to! They also charge him $20.00 each time they send out documents that were NEVER requested, all these smaller non-disclosed fees, added up equal other higher rate companies so do your homework, as these a**holes are about adding fees upon fee.

So my advice, they offer cheap rates, but don't go with them, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE delivery, business model brokers are never in the office (yes, this is not intacts problem but it's a sign)

Lesson learned, we are switching over to a new company, even paying marginally higher rates (10% higher than what we started to pay with Intact in the beginning).
